I just finished a transaction through Sydney City Scooter Club, the bloke I bought it off is going to ride it to me, I'll show you pictures when it arrives & I'll show you progress pictures as I customise it.

Scooters are like fat chicks.

They're fun to ride till your friends find out.

I think it's great that you don't care when people question your sexuality.

Vespas are pretty cool though, have many a fun time!

Is Bathurst a good place for a Vespa? I would have thought they'd only be good in cities. Has Bathurst had a traffic spurt since i was last there?

Feel free to ride your Vespa outdoors, too.

I was gonna get a scooter... Then I went and looked at one.

Now I'm riding a CBR600 with a top speed of 250km/h or so I've been told... *cough*

Vespa's are about the only cool scooter IMHO, so congrats. They're quirky and different which makes them ok.

What age / model / condition? I'm assuming it's a 250cc?

Yea, but I'm still waiting to get it back after a bit of an accident a month or so back :(

The problem with bikes that accelerate quickly is you've got to be paying attention the whole time. I was only awake for 10 mins and running late for work...

oops. yeah, I could imagine that 'still asleep' and 'in a rush' and 'CBR600' wouldn't mix so well, glad your okay mate.

Yea, damn lucky considering I wasn't even wearing my jacket. Got a few bruises and scratches, but not too bad. Did about 4k damage to the bike, and hit a BMW. I'm so glad I have insurance.

Be careful on your scooter That_Bloke, especially cornering quickly or in the wet. Due to the base of a scooter being relatively wide, quick cornering can cause it to hit the ground.

Don't get an open face helmet either, after seeing a pic of some dude on rotten.com with half his face missing I don't think it'd be a good idea.

A lot of people assume that coz scooters don't go so fast you don't need any saftey gear. Gloves are a must, a mate of mine couldn't feed himself for a few weeks after a relatively minor accident once...

1991 PX200E, 200cc, there hasn't been a Vespa with a factory capacity above that.

You can get them upto 260cc with aftermarket parts & extensive case grinding.

I hope you'll be adding forced induction :)

I'm half tempted to stick one of the smaller turbos I have lying around on my bike...
Really I should just sell the bike though!

Yea, dunno what I was thinking with the 250... Fuck the regrind or aftermarkets, keep it orig. It'll be worth more, and if it's not in original condition try and put it back that way.

Would be interested to see photo's when you get 'em.

What'd you pay?

If I do anything to the engine I'll get a spare crankcase & do it to that, The P/PX series is the last of the classic shape Vespas but it is unlikely to be worth a great deal(except in America, Some arseclown a couple of years ago thought he could get the equivelent $13,000Aud(Shit, 2 years later & he's still trying to sell the same one & he's only taken $1000 off the price) (http://www.albogg.com/vespa.html) for a bog stock model of vespa that sells brand new everywhere else except the US for $5500Aud on the road ) , I paid/paying $3050 including the cost of the bloke personally delivering it.

It'll look like this one:
http://www.vespafascination.com/80/scooters/images/82_PX200.gif

I intend to do engraving & murals on it, this is why I chose a pre-disk brake model, the disk brake models have hideousley tacky looking star shaped hubs but the drum brake models have full hubs that lend themselves well to engraving & electroplating.

Not on this one, this one is to look pretty, Later I want to build a Drag scooter(they call it sprint in europe) eventhough there is no scooter sport here, it'll be reed ported, 260cc & possible on nitrous, all that would probably be good for about 50-60hp at the back wheel.

My murals & engraving will be Joy Division themed, I'll try & do as much myself as I can, I'm relatively handy with a Dremel & an Airbrush & I'll soon be getting an electroplating kit, If I were to have this stuff done by others it could easily cost $15,000-$20,000 but doing it myself I could have the scooter they way I want it for around $7000 including purchase price of the scoot.

What I'm doing is popular in the British scene but in Aus it seems that all custom scooters are either Mod style or Cafe racer style, Mine will almost certainly end up being the only one like it my side of the Blue Mountains, if not the whole state.

I've always wanted one, living 40 minutes walk from the melbourne CBD. The problem is that I the way I drive, I wouldn't get on a bike to save my life... <boom> <boom>

I've ridden a pushie from the south, and that's stupid enough.

Good luck.

Ah well, as long as you give other riders a nod! And be damn careful on those tiny tiny wheels!

I still don't have a license yet:p , I got some new tyres, Schwalbe weatherman, they are rated to 150km/h which is overkill really but I'll consider it insurance.

I got a 60mm Mazzochelli crank & an alloy Pinasco cylinder & piston kit, I could do this mod myself but I'm going to get it done a local 2 stroke specialist just to be on the safe side, the mod will give 225cc & about 16hp.

I'm considering incorporating this image
http://www.ultra-pop.org/images/cover2/joy-ideal.jpg
Into my murals or engraving, could it be considered to be in poor taste?
I mean to someone not familiar with Joy Division(& the Jewishness of atleast 2 key members) could it be mistaken as some kind of glorification of old NAZI propagander?

Glad to hear it's coming along well bruv. Make sure you get some decent pics for us soon, would like to see how it's lookin.

I got my bike from being serviced ($760) the week before last and I finally had the time for a ride on the weekend. I fucking needed to flog the crap out of that bike through the hills. There's nothing like riding dangerously fast to clear the head.

Yeah, but seems like you're working out what you wanna do. Good luck with the artwork man, hope it looks wicked when ur done.

Make sure that shit looks cool man, then you'll seriously have an individual machine with style.

No they don't, I tried, best I can do on a electric assisted bicycle(Granted it'd be faster without the drag from the permanantly engaged motor) is 50km/h on a steep hill, The Vespa will do 110km/h standard, & mine will do 140km/h.

ROFL.

No, I think the vespa wins. A scooter might be a bit tacky and weak to guys like me, but try-hard motorcycles that just don't quite get there are lame. If you ride a bike, you ride a real fucking bike, not some slapped together gutless piece of junk.

BTW, starting out with a bargain basement bike that has to be one of the ugliest models Yamaha ever came out with is never going to result in a cool bike. It's going to result in a tricked out ugly thing... much like putting a short skirt and too much makeup on a fat, ugly old chick.
