Does anyone know of some free phot-editing software that doesn't require itself to add shit to the registry?

Basically I want to do some pretty basic image-editing on my work PC, so it can't be share-ware, and it can't be pirated or cracked. Also, the PC's run XP and their locked down, so can't install stuff that needs to add itself to registry or system folder, etc.

I just need something that can do resizing, make free-hand selections for cut and paste, and preferable soft-edged brushes.

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

WOW! You're a genius!

Geez, a whole 10 mins just to get a (FIRST POST! LOL!) sarcastic reply on the ZGeek forums; That's pretty long.

But seriously... I'm well aware of MS Paint. I need something with more features.

Windows XP has a pretty basic photo editor installed in automatically. MS Photo Editor.....definitely basic, but it's free and does what you want to do with your pictures. As for finding another photo editor program that doesnt mess with the registry I doubt you'll find it. Most everything with any kind of installer changes registry stuff....I've never come upon any photo editors that dont...

So, you want something that is...

1. free
2. doesn't add anything to the registry
3. isn't shareware
4. isn't pirated
5. isn't cracked
6. runs without being installed
7. must be able to do resizing
8. must be able to do free-hand selections for cut n paste
9. has soft edge brushes

Gee... you don't ask for much.

Try googling for something that's Java based. Good luck... you'll probably need it.

Unfortunately, Office 2K3 overwrites the useful MS Photo Editor with the much-less useful MS Office Picture Manager. See this link (http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=298) to see what I'm talking about.

Thanks, anyway... I guess I have to keep looking.

tikdoph I know I'm pushing it. In general I use freeware programs that don't add to the reg. The other softwares I use a work are Firefox for browsing, Thunderbird for mail, WinAMP for radio, Firezilla for FTP, and I even do some 3D poly modelling with a program called Wings3D... So it isn't entirely impossible to get freeware, non-intrusive software that does what you want, it's just that often people don't know where to look. Unfortunately I'm in that boat when it comes to image apps, and I though someone here might know better.

If you have Office installed you should have MS PhotoDraw or something like that installed. Just use that.
