Musically speaking, i'm in a bit of a rut right now. I'm looking for new bands, new songs by bands i already have, anything really.

I tend to listen to rock and rock types, mostly - punk, metal and the like, but lately stuff with elecrical influences is making it's way in. I do listen to rap occaisionally, though it's rare that i find anything in that genre i like beyond the beat.

Help a guy out. If you're suggesting a band, help me out by suggesting a specific song or two by them as well.

Check out Within Temptation. Female vocalist, heavy guitars and lots of keyboards. Two songs to check out, "Ice Queen" and "Enter". Enter has a cool death metal growl type thing at the begining.

Let me know if you check them out!

Lacuna Coil tend to be quite popular amongst the rocker/metal-heads. Another female vocalist; Kind of a lighter metal band, you might want to check out "Falling Again", "Hyperfast", or even "Wave of Anguish" ooorrr...."Angel's Punishment".

Or...I'm trying to think of something not too screamy or heavy as I don't entirely know what you're into.

Cold are a pretty good band in my opinion as well, check out "Suffocate" or the slower number of "Wasted Years". Male vocalist here. Excalibur got me hooked on them. :D

Oh and Alchemist have a great sound to them as well: "Eclectic" [Instrumental] and "New Beginning" are two of my favourites. I love the guitar of Eclectic (might feel a bit repetitive to others though). Another male vocalist here. Good Aussie metal! \m/

Try Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here, it's safe to say pink floyd's music will last an eternity.

For some fuzzy riff-o-rama you may like to try Kyuss - Jumbo Blimp Jumbo.

You could always give Led Zeppelin a go, as for a song to suggest i'll stick with a classic Stairway to Heaven.

Dont forget The Doors try Break On Through or The End.

I highly doubt you'll try em all so i'll quit suggesting now

I recommend Opeth, Chalice (http://www.chalice.mu), Solefald (http://www.solefald.org), Arcturus (http://www.adastraenter.com) , *Insert rest of the usual suspects here*, etc.

You should also observe the 2003 LH Enterprises Music Award Substitutes (http://www.websitesubstitute.com/FocalFlashpoint/FF0004.html) for more recommendations. (There are links to mp3s too)

Massive Attack have not long put out a web exclusive new track on www.massiveattack.com. It's a bit of a pain to get to d/l but free and cool.
Also anything by Portishead or Massive attack (esp weather man, protection, well anything off the protection album.

Not new but cool all the same.

I'll back that up and suggest "Dark Side of the Moon" too. They're not as good these days but I highly recommend you check out Roger Waters' "Radio KAOS" and "Amused to Death."

Download as much Alien Sex Fiend you can.
Also, if you're into punk you might like The Damned.
I dunno much about what sort of music other people like, sorry.

I've been getting a kick out of Norah Jones of late - awesome jazz.
Great for kicking back with a scotch at night and watching the world go by :)

If you are into some of the lighter metal as well, try to get your hands on some Dungeon. A great Aussie Metal band. I little Judas Preist-y, very cool. (try "paradise", "Fight", anything really)

Try Tool if you dont listen to them already. *Slaps you if you haven't* (Schism, Sober, Stinkfist, Aenima)

*Accepts gratitude from Moebs for introducing her to cold.*

Black Label Society also do some Balls to the wall hard rock, with some amazing ballads as well, try "Bored to tears", "Bleed for me" and "Life, Borth, Blood, Doom" for the heavier stuff, and "Bridge to Cross", "Blessed Hellride", "Spoke in the Wheel", and Just killing time" for the ballads.

PS. As dungeon are an Aussie band, they will be hard to find to D/L. as will Alchemist.

I've been listening to the Probot (self titled) album over the last couple of weeks, and it's certainly worth a listen. It's heavy metal, but not death metal - and has some kick arse stuff on it...Check out Silent Spring, My Tortured Soul and Shake Your blood.

I also got Eagles of Death Metal's album - as I pretty much buy anything to do with Josh Homme (Kyuss, Queens of the Stoneage). Josh Homme's drumming (yes drumming) is pretty ordinary, but the album has a good energy to it, and is worth a listen. Check out Speaking in Tongues - great song.

Anyhoo, I'm a certified music junkie. I'm after some more music in the Tool vein (I've got Undertow, Aenima and Schism). Any suggestions?

WIKED! If you like this listen to Mellisa. MetallicA covered some of their songs, but they sound so much more evil because of his screeching voice. Its twice as insane as Halford's.

Try Rammstein, Soulfly, helmet just to name a few.

Do yourself a favour and get your hands on their album 'Lateralus', when your in the right mood and you have some time, do yourself a favour and kick back and listen to it from start to finish, epic journey.

However if you are just looking for a few songs... Third Eye, Lateralus, Reflection, The Grudge, Forty Six and 2, Parabol/Parabola, Stinkfist and Sober are all good.
