On the quite un-geeky topic of cricket, today it was confirmed that Sri Lanka's Muralitharan is a chucker. After finding that his action was in breach of the rules, the ICC have stated they will not be revising the rules to accomodate him.
So now we have the situation where the guy on the virge of breaking the world record is deemed to have been cheating for two years... Perhaps he should be stricken from the record books?
I like the idea of putting him back on zero wickets, and whenever he comes out to bat from now on - bowlers are allowed to chuck it at him.
Read about it here:

Nice one, I've tried starting cricket threads before...
However, the all important question that you failed to ask is:
"How much wood could Murali chuck if Murali could chuck wood?" :D

He's still a brilliant bowler, it's just that one delivery that he does it for. I say let him stay but bar him from that delivery unless he can remove the chucking action and be proven to have removed it.

It's only when bowling his "Doosra" that his action is illegal supposedly. Not that it'll matter much, Muralitharan is a great bowler and will take wickets regardless.
As far as him having an unfair advantage in the record books. I'd say he gets more help from being bowled for 50 over spells on what are essentially doctored pitches, than from his bizarre action.

Yeah! The dirty bastard has been moochin wickets off of the Sri Lankan pitches.
And what exactly does his Doosra, er, do?

The doosra is the name given to what is essentailly an off spinner's equivalent to a Leg Spinner's wrong'un or googly. Saqlain Mushtaq from Pakistan was the first to use such a delivery I believe. I remember him causing quite a problem for the Australian lower order during the 1999/2000 one day series.

The difference between Mushtaq and Murali is that Mushtaq doesn't spin it nearly as much - because he has an orthodox off spin action. Murali has so much wrist (and elbow!) in his action, he's able to turn the doosra nearly as much as his offspinner - which has to raise questions to start with.
So, while he doosra isn't really a wicket ball and most top order batsmen can deal with it ok, the tail enders don't stand a chance. No doubt this ball helps him clean up the tail because they're not sure which way its going and it takes out the prospect of a slog.
I don't think it's good to encourage that sort of unorthodox action in bowling, and the ICC need to stamp it out.

When not bowling the doosra there's nothing wrong with his action other than looking funny. Also impersonating Muralitharan would be virtually impossible for a normal human being as they do not have the combination of limited elbow mobility and the ability to bend their wrists so as to touch their elbows.
