Hi all,

need some technical advice. I seem to be getting a virsus (mime, bagel.x, netsky or slober) just about everytime I get incoming emails. Nod32 is picking it up but it is really annoying, I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar problems and if anyone could tell me how to avoid them all together

thanks in advance

If I read that correctly, you're getting emailed viruses and you want a way to permanently stop that from happening?

Easy - track down every single computer user destroy their computer, and kill them so they can't possibly buy another one.

Too extreme? Disconnect your computer and never use it again.

Too extreme? Stop using email then.

Viruses come from other people whose computers are infected. The viruses scan files that could possibly have email addresses in them, put them all into a list and sends an infected email to every address in the list. You're getting viruses because someone somewhere has an infected computer and your email address on it (cached web page, in the "cc" field of an email they got, in their address book etc).

There are companies that offer services for your mail to be routed through and they cut out all the spam/viruses for you, but I doubt you're willing to pay for it (I wouldn't be), so those top three options are really all you've got. Take your pick.

thanks Thingy, I'm having a bit of a blond day and probably not expressing myself very well. I guess more than anything I wanted to know that I wasn't the only one receiving (what feels like) all these viruses at the moment

Also of note is that it will usually say it's from everyone BUT the actual sender. So what you can do is look at who else it is going to and try and work out who it's coming from from that. Then check if they have a decent AV if not you have your person. Otherwise keep searching.

In that case, I think this (http://www.zgeek.com/gallery/uploads/virusmess) will answer your question.

That Lotus Notes email server handles about 200 or so mailboxes, that screenshot was taken a few minutes ago, today appears (looking at that) to be a damned quiet day on the virus front.
