So... Someone at work handed me a 6610 and said "I drove over my phone.. should I give it to you?" (People always feel better about giving IT their broken hardware as opposed to chucking it... odd)
I said yeah becuase hey, I can always use gadgets and crappy spares. I may have someone needing a 6610 battery one day.

The only obvious damage is the LCD display and screen cover is cracked. The screen turns on (I get back lighting and colour) but that's it.

Now, i can buy a new case no worries and that's probably quite cheap, I have the chargers ofcourse (i already had a Nokia) but I've just gotten a quote to fix the LCD screen.

It's going to cost $165 for the screen and an extra $20 if the circuit board is damaged (which seeing as its been run over by a car i'd say so it has).
The speaker still works (I get the beep when I plug the power in) so I think it's just the screen.

So.... Given my current phone is a loaner ( from buffy... you rock!) and I don't have another mobile (my other one recently died in the ass) should I pay to get this fixed?
I'm leaning towards paying for the fix but i'd like someone elses opinion.

You can find the phone and specs. here (http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,8764,734,00.html)

Remember this isn't a matter of how good/bad this phone is or the features it has but if the money is worth the end result.

I know of cases where a 10-tonne crane has ran over a mobile phone, and cases where a mini has ran over a phone. Regardless of the weight of the vehicle, the same result has occured - dead phone.

There's often a lot more that can go wrong than just the circuit board (which incidentally, whill be the controller for just the screen - not the whole board inside the phone) and the screen. There's no real way for you to test the microphone for starters, not to mention the tuner circuits.

Hell, after being run over by a car, I'd imagine that the internal aerial's going to be cactus anyway...

Don't do it. $165+ ? + ? + ? = New phone with warrantee. If you really want to experiment with it- give it to Dumhed- and post the exploding bits videos. This would be the best use of this phone. To seriously contemplate repair is a world of aggrevation and pain.

I totally agree with frednurk and spingo. Don't do it. If it was $30 then maybe - but $165 is a lot of money - and you'd be spewin' if there was some other problem. All the odds say you're gonna be out of pocket in the end.

Not to mention other things that could happen. For example, if the handset was insured and replaced, then bet your bottom dollar that the insurance company arranged for the IMEI to be blocked. Also, if it was a pre-paid phone in it's previous life, chances are that it's still locked to the previous SIM...

Neither of these you can really find out until AFTER the repair..
