In honour of the premier of Spiderman in the US yesterday. Let's see you best Spiderman chops. Looking for most humours picture. Try and keep it fairly work safe, given that is probably where I will judge it from. Toby McGuire is open for use in this competition as well, given he has the staring role.
Winners will be announced 1 week from today (ie, 1 July 2004).
Get chopping

Here's one that I did for another thread... excuse the lack of turban reflection on the glass, but I've flattened the image and couldn't be assed lassoing the turban again, pasting it, reversing it, and adjusting the opacity and skew. :p

Looking at it again, I think it would have been an absolute bitch to do the reflected turban..having to work out the viewpoint of the reflection and where the fingers would block it....I think we would next hear from you in about 6 months ;)
If only he had used his powers for good...

The original is here (http://www.niksula.cs.hut.fi/~jkaarlas/misc/PDVD_029.jpg) in case you are interested.
Jesus! That is brilliant!
Did you hand-draw the Spider-Man costume over the hands, or flog it from another pic? Either way, it's genius.

I used the high res versions of the wallpapers available on the Spiderman 2 site (http://spiderman.sonypictures.com/). The original (http://www.niksula.cs.hut.fi/~jkaarlas/misc/PDVD_029.jpg) is grabbed from the Two Towers DVD.

I didn't know that was required now. I might write something tomorrow. It took me 4-5 hours to create and I didn't keep a journal.
Looking at the source images and the result should reveal a few obvious points however. Start from observing the colors. In general no custom tools or 3rd party plugins were used, only Photoshop CS (which I installed today).

Dilligaf didn't come up with that caption himself... he found the already captioned picture on Google.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
And now by popular demand here are the basic steps how to do it:
Idea: I wasn't too excited about this at first but as I looked around for inspiration I saw the Gollum statue (http://img-nex.theonering.net/images/scrapbook/orig/8470_orig.jpg) in my bookshelf and realised that Spidey and Gollum both spend a lot of time in similar poses. At first I thought I'd put Spiderman by the Forbidden Pool. However I did look for other sources, thinking of spider(man)like positions. Then I remembered how he stalked Frodo and Sam at Emyn Muil, loaded the DVD and started watching. Eventually (and after about 25 screenshots) I noticed that the first fight scene would make a good entry. I liked putting just Spidey's hands in the picture. It seemed more subtle yet clear enough at the time.
Colors: Color matching is rather important, even if the picture is good otherwise the different colors will stand out so try to match the colors between the original and whatever you are putting in. You can use Color Balance or Hue/Sat adjustment layers. Using adjustment layers is a non-destructive way to change whatever you are changing at the time. Photoshop CS has a color match tool which can make the process faster but it's destructive and I found myself adding adjustment layers to compensate for some changes it made.
Shape: I fitted the fingers one by one by transforming fingers from the wallpapers to a correct size and orientation, then liquified them to match the shape of Gollum's fingers. I only used the clone stamp to patch a few spots where I couldn't fit the spidey suit without too much distortion. These spots are clearly distinguishable imho.
The shiny spot in the arm was pure luck, it just worked by chance, the color matching accentuated it quite a bit while giving it a nightly tone. Same goes for most reflections and shadows, though I had to fix the shadows a bit in some fingers so that they would be consistent with the rest.
Finally, never just cut a shape. You are wasting your time trying to lasso a shape precisely. Leave ample space around it and use layer masks to hide what you want. I usually just use the polygonal lasso to quickly select a region. If I want a precise and modifiable selection I'll create a path and make a selection out of it (usually to mask something). You'll get much smoother borders with masks and can always change them afterwards without destroying the actual pixels. If you cut too much you can't get it back. Understanding layers and masks is the quintessence of Photoshop.
Now excuse me while I think of the next theme. I might not publish it today, just to give everyone some time to breathe.

Sorry I'm late, I've been working a lot recently and haven't been anywhere much but work or bed. I was gonna do a couple or three page comic but I've only managed the first one. As you can see I'm much the noob at photoshop.
The final joke was gonna be something along the lines of him not making it in time, not having a zipper etc.
