Is there any way to further edit user permissions other than through control panel/user accounts?

Click on Start
Then Run
Type MMC and hit enter
Click CONSOLE then ADD/REMOVE SNAP IN
Click ADD then LOCAL USERS AND GROUPS
Click ADD then FINISH
Then just keep click OK or CLOSE until your back to the first window you saw when you typed MMC and you can play around from there.
You can do the same thing to Add the Group Policy Snap In. Just play around within the MMC. I'm not sure what you are trying to do exactly so can't help much further

Yeah, sorry, didn't explain all that well.
I'm trying to give certain users certain permissions, such as access to some files, but not to others, and some no access at all. you can't get that explicit in the users section of control panel.

What version of windows are you using?
'9X is very different to 2000 is very different to XP (until you turn off "simple file sharing" which sucks arse and is more confusing to me).

Not familiar with the home edition, is there the option to turn off the simple file sharing?
Windows Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> "Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended)" ... untick it.

turn simple file sharing OFF. its fucked.
then right click on the folder/file and select the tab "permissions".
if you are posting on a site called "zgeek" you should be able to work it out from there :)

Home doesn't have that option. It's ok though, thanks. I can use threats just as well as permissions.

I don't think XP Home allows you to set NTFS permissions at all. I suggest you stick with threats or install 2k/XP Pro.
