View Full Version : Coke machine needed

Here's the deal: I need an old Coke machine, for a project that has been assigned to me at work (don't ask).
Following reading pages like the coke machine at the uni of wa (http://www.ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au/services/drink.ucc), my boss has decreed that one be installed at my work so that cans of coke and other beverages can be purchased by our engineers (we run on caffiene) and deducted from our paycheque each fortnight (saves carrying heaps of change about). On top of this, the profits made from the machine can be added to the beer kitty.
So, does anyone know where I can find a used (and preferably cheap) coke machine? Even if it's damaged / slightly broken. We're engineers, we can fix it :D

My first thoughts are eBay and the Trading Post. You can also call the vending machine companies - there should be service numbers and stuff on them. Or try the soft drink companies....
Sounds like a great idea. If you get it to work, can you share your talents with us mere mortals?
i would try calling coke amatil if your in sydney, that's where their factory is..... Linky (http://www.ccamatil.com.au)

Holy shit! people replied to this thread! Perhaps after posting it i should have kept an eye on it... ah well.
Icky_Thoomp, I've tried eBay and haven't been able to find anything that's suitable. The only ones i can find are the dodgy home made ones, and they still cost $800 or whatever.
CCA don't seem to willing to cooperate, but i'll keep hassling until i get through to someone who's got a freakin brain in their head (i hope).
Either that or perhaps i have to raise the stakes a tad... If anyone can find me one for a decent price (legal or not *cough*) then i'll give the winner 2 Astro Dollars (cases of ice-cold carlton draught - it's made in big metal things).
If someone can find me one for free, i'll give 'em 2 Astro Pounds (cases of Bundy OP Rum and Coke cans).

Tell your boss to buy you the coke to improve your efficency, That way you would all love him more and his engineers would have more job security and pleasure because they wouldnt have to worry bout change for a machine etc and he would save shitloads of money because you would all become so efficent that he would only need half the staff and then he would only need halff the number of coke cans! yay for efficency.
If someone can find me one for free, i'll give 'em 2 Astro Pounds (cases of Bundy OP Rum and Coke cans).
Whoa im in!
I'm in on this.... mmm free booze

I was under the impression that Coke will not willingly allow one of their machines to fall into the hands of other people. I know people who have attempted to bid on them at liquidation auctions only to be quickly suprassed by the Coke rep. The reason is that they don't want the coin validation mechanism to fall into the hands of people who want to create slugs. Note that the machine linked has no functioning coin slot.
I think your best bet would be to put a wanted add in the trading post, and to get a non-coke vending machine if possible.

You know a bar fridge and a Nazi office manager is a much simpler solution

call Coke. They will probably have an old one.
If you have a ute, you can also find them at train stations and public schools.

Or a bar-fridge and some honest staff...

Honest staff are a lot harder to come by than a nazi office manager. :p

I raised a couple of these questions to my boss and got the real reasoning behind the requirement for a coke machine.
He couldn't give a rat's arse about engineer's requirements for caffiene during the day. as far as he's concerned, coke is a "poof's drink".
Apparently, it has something to do with the fact that every afternoon we have a "race meet". the Race meet is an unofficial meeting where engineers discuss what's going on and keep abreast of what everyone else is doing. Every day, one person is appointed "cheif steward", and is required to go to the local bottle shop and get a couple of 4 packs of OP Bundy rum cans to share around. The problem with this is that it's like a shout at the pub - except that sometimes engineers aren't at the office every afternoon.
The coke machine is supposed to replace the chief steward, and remove the shout-missing when engineers are offsite. Set the OP Rum cans at $1 a pop and the boss will use the proceeds to top it up once a week.

Most bottlers will provide a machine for free as long as you stock it with their product. There should be a vending machine distributor in your area that sells used or refubished vending machines. Try looking here:
http://www.vendingdirectory.com/default.asp?catid=995&cattitle=Australia
A funny story. I used to work for a vending machine distributer and one time we had a big order for soda machines for Guam. The buyer can order different fronts for their machines like Coke, Pepsi, and the like. These where the first one I had ever seen with beer fronts. They were being purchased by a beer distributer.

Hey.. I could be your coke machine:
I'm an engineer (fit right in), I stand in the corner.. when you need a pick-me-up you put $200 worth of coins into my hand and I dole out grams of coke.
I've also been described as cheap and slightly broken before.

LOL just dont steal the machine from my school. The lines are really bad already.
Ahh.. the days when beer vending machines got under the radar in Australia for a few short weeks/months. There used to be one at the sportsbar in Melbourne (king st). no matter how pissed you were - no talking to drones etc... (1994/5 - can't remember - too much beer)
Then the liquor licencing commision caught on. BASTARDS!

have you seen those ones that look like a fridge and when you open the door it has four rows of can thingies. you see them through perspex, and it's got a mechanical dial thing (like the bubble gum machines).
it has slots for one dollar, and two twenty cent pieces. i guess you set it up for whether you want it for $1, $1.20 or $1.40.
i'd like to get my hands on one of them. make my mates pay for coke when they come over. sponging leeches that they are.
