I hesitate to ask such an ignorant question, but I figure it's better to do so than fuck up totally. I want to reformat my hard drive, but I'm not completely sure how to do so. Before I go on, I'm running XP Home.

This is because of a few things. First - the original XP disk has been lost by my useless tard of a brother, so I'm using another disk.

Second. When I saw a mate of mine do it, he just typed "format c:/" in the run command propmpt, and it seemed to work, but all the how to's I've found seem infinitely more complicated than that.

Any help would be appreciated.

When you boot to the install disc and take a few steps toward installing Windows the setup will give you the option to create, delete and format partitions.

Yeah, tried that and it didn't work.

During the XP install, key 'D' to delete the existing partition. It'll ask you 'are you sure'? Key 'Y' then 'L'. Then simply key 'Enter' on the 'Unpartitioned Space' to continue.

Thanks, figured out the problem was an obvious one - the disc wasn't bootable.
