My Pc had a balls up crash last week. i lost a partition - thankfully my programs & not my data.

Anyway, I've rebuilt it and installed SP2. I've re-installed Mirc and I can't connect. Is the firewall to blame? I've got it turned off. Is SP2 being far too smart for its own good?

Ideas? anyone done the same?

sp2 should only prevent inbound connections...

it uses a stateful filtering process to ensure you can do websurfing/mail/etc

i am currently running sp2, mirc works fine.. including dde after allowing mirc to listen via the annoying popup...

the only thing that springs to mind is that ident might be a problem... if you add a custom port via start=>control panel=>windows firewall=>exceptions=>add port=>port 113 TCP

that might be the issue, as the xp firewall seems to not be as brilliant as advertised (surprised?)
