kind of depends on what I feel like downloading that month... music, games, video, etc... I have to be in the mood for the media...
I'd say 1-3 gig on average, but there've been months where I prolly have only DL'ed about 500 meg, and some like last month where I went closer to 5 gig.

Hehehe, I am with bigpond and downloaded 11 GB's in the first 3 days of the month so at the moment I am capped. with bigpond I can usually get away with more than 16 GB's but not much more, though if I have the bandwidth I would probably go mad.....

32GB+ each month, and I do it pretty easily too.

God damn spurr, wtf do you dl apart from vast oceans of porn? I usually do 1-4 gig, just mp3s, occasional videos and a game/movie or 2.

With optus we can have 12 gig a month, but we never get close to that. I wish I could - but have trouble trying finding and downloading movies etc

More to the point, where do you put it all? Must have a monstrous harddrive!
I rediscovered p2p recently so my dloads have gone up a bit but I struggle to go higher than 2 gig generally
Our optus cap is at 12 GB and I feel that if I haven't breached that by the end of the month, I'm wasting it.
Stuff I download:
- Movies
- TV Episodes
- MP3 (my family does this, I usually just buy the CD's then rip them)
- Music Videos
- Recently discovered the comic downloading scene. Just finished a 2.5GB collection of Uncanny X-Men #1-current.

go to www.suprnova.org all the movies you can poke a stick at there. You'll need a bit torrent client however, which has already been discussed in a forum somewhere. Azureus is a really good client i highly recommend it. I forget the site that its at, just type 'azureus' in a google web search and it should come up. You'll have to have java 2 installed for it to work however, it tells you how to set everything up on the site.

Would you believe linux iso's?? Didn't think so.....besides the aforementioned oceans of girls in the nuddie, I just grab the usual stuff everyone else does, just more of it :ha:

I've got five HD's spread between two boxes, for a total of half a terrabyte. I also have a DVD burner for backing up and archiving stuff.
I'm a bit like 108 in that I have some strange urge to max my cap out each month. Since I first got ADSL my cap has grown from 6GB -> 8GB -> 16GB -> 32GB -> unlimited and my downloading habits have followed suit. Now that I'm on an unlimited plan I'll have to either leech the entire internet or overcome my download addiction.

I'd say about 60gb a month (and thats on a measly 1mb line). My brother has a modded xbox :p

Serious question, what do you guys do with all this data? Don't you find that you have a massive backlog of stuff to listen to and watch?
I notice that spurr backs up to DVD, if your collections are growing by, say, an average of 15 gigs a month, doesn't the risk of drive failure concern you?
Apologies for all the questions, p2p is just something I've never really got into myself and don't fully understand why other people do.

I'm on Bigpond unlimited* and usually use 15Gig a month myself whilst the other 3 networked comps use about a gig between them. This month I got us capped around the 15th so it's been hell for the last week.
I back up mainly to CD because if I lose a whole DVD it'd be pretty harsh.
I don't consider my bandwidth to be excessive so I can't really answer your question Peach.
*not unlimited

Not really but then i dont watch television unless its something really special, i would prefer to watch a documentary or specific show i have downloaded than just vege in front of the telly.
Why would drive failure worry us? we can just download it again :D

I download a fair bit, atm for this month I am up too 8gb. Being an avid FPS online gamer I have patches to get. Pron takes up a small chunk for example when I see a site I like I sick xfileget onto it and take the lot. Don't bother with movies anymore as I find them to be far inferior to the rips I make so I usually just hire then burn them. The latest games that interest me I grab like doom3. Thats about all I download.
Does anyone find that the torrents you grab from suprnova come down very slowly. I am rapped if I get 20KB/sec, usually they hang around the 10KB mark.

Just bought a nice new 200GB sata drive to store it all on :D
I usually download about 1.5 to 2GB a day (a Day being the amount of time i'm at tafe, usually from 9 till 5, 4 days a week). this gets dumped on my iPod and then i take it home to sort/delete. Mostly delete, actually. My pc at home doesn't have a net connection so i'm downloading the entire debian mirror and deleting the packages for non-x86 architectures.
My record for downloading in one day is 7.1GB (and i didn't even start downloading till about 1:30 :) ). My mate (abbakagep) tries to beat this over one month on dialup (his record is 8.4GB). I guess it's my turn now :).
edit: I guess i collect around 50+GB per month. i'm up to 800MB today, and i've only been connected for 2 and a half hours

Anywhere up to 60 GB, but usually more like 40. I've got 500GB of disk to stash it on, and the good stuff goes to DVD regularly. As soon as the new 400GB SATA disks from Seagate hit the market I'll be buying 4 of 'em and RAID5'ing the suckers.

Are we talking new popular torrents or older larger ones?
My theory is that because its peer to peer and the person your downloading from is also downloading other stuff, they are going to find something good, then they will prioritise there uploads accordingly.
For example during the release of doom3 my older xfiles torrent stalled, everyone had shifted their priorities to either downloading or playing doom3.
After a week the torrents came back to live as people shifted their priorities back to uploading.
Not only that you also have to manage your upload/download ratio so you dont max out your upload bandwith sending packets to people, then not having any left to send out packets requesting data from people.
If your on a 512/128 try setting your upload speed to 5-7k max.

My records of internet access at uni report that, so far this month (today is 30/8/04) I have logged "230.51 Megabytes, which costs approximately $5.76". I would estimate this would represent a quarter to a third of my total usage, or less if I've been on a NASA TV streaming video spree at home. Is this excessive?

i usually get 18 gig a month roughly, because i start off slow so i wont blow my 32 gig cap but then i can never hit it.
However i have a mate who usually hits on the average about 100+ a month and he only has a 160 gig hdd he just formats frequently, and backs up the movies etc.

I'm on the 1.5mb cable unlimited bigpond plan....after 10Gb they reserve the right to slow us to dial up.....They don't usually....I usually download 16 - 32. But some months I download around about 40 - 60Gb.

yeah, i sometimes worry about HDD filling up and such, but im stuffed if i know where all the data goes :S ... im a 15'giger, every month (internode) if im going over, i just slow things down, but if i can see (monthly downloads meter..w00t) that im going to come under the cap, i just ask people what they want\need, and download it for them (poor....poor little dial-upers)
im only running 1 80GB, and 1 120GB, but for the last 6 months, i've downloaded 15GB every month... now thats *...1...carry the 7... % by x...* 90GB, but im not finding it.... who knows...
I BLAME THE SOCK GOBLINS
Addition: actualy, my brother was in a house with 3 PCs, and all up their were getting 65-80GB per month, the DVD collection was FUCKING HUGE... you name it, they have it. easy $1000 on DVD-R's....madness

ive downloaded 22 gig this month so far according to my download meter.
heavuier than normal month because i lost alot of tv shows i like, and so been downloading alot of stuff again in off peak time.
I'm a whore, and average 40 - 50GB a month. Currently have downloaded Scrubs season 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the last week, which has been 20GB.
Then I say I have also downloaded a few 100% legitimate products too, which is around 10 more GB.
I'm surprised myself that I actually get to 40GB, let alone 50GB some months.
