Ok, so here's the deal. When we got this computer, we got it with a 7-in-1 multi card reader. Now, much to my chagrin, because of this the drives were named as follows;
3 1/2 Floppy: A:
DVD ROM/CD BURNER: D:
Removable Disk (The multi card reader) C:
Removable Disk: E:
Removable Disk: F:
Removable Disk: G:
Hard Disk: H:

The fact that the hard disk was reading as H: pissed me off a LOT ,but since we'd already gone and put everything on the computer my girlfriend didn't want to have to go get it formatted to reassign the drive letter (it's actually her computer).

Now, WindowsXP took it upon itself to download Service Pack 2 this morning, and all of a sudden, I find that the removable disks are assigne E, F, G, and I respectively. Hard Disk is still H:
There's no C.
Now I'm really annoyed. It's just not right goddamnit.
Can anyone help with this, or offer any suggestions?

You can reassign all but the system drive letter in the Disk Manager.

Don't take offence to this question mate, I mean it from purely an interest sake, but why does it bother you, I mean I know that traditionally PC's have always had a C: but it doesn't really matter much does it? correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks... heh, where would I find Disk Manager?

Nothing I can do about that system disk eh?
I had managed to push it far enough from my mind not to care too much, until this happened. Now I'm mad at the bastards who made this computer again.

No, that's cool. Everybody else seems to think it's fine. I'm just being picky. It just seems wrong not to have it called 'C:'
I dunno, it's just one of those things I grew up with and it's burned into my brain.

Yeah, I used to have a pc with it's system drive called g:. It pissed me off too. There was a tool in Norton's suite that let you re-assign drive letters, and after you reassign it'd go into the registry and swap all the letter references for you. This was back in the win98 days though, dunno if you can still do it.

No need for third party apps. As druid mentions above, you can easily change drive letters within XP.

Except for the system drive as he also mentioned. Mine is currently G: cos I fucked up one of my disks and had to reinstall, but I'll reinstall again in a few weeks when I can be bothered to put windows back on the faster of the two disks, for now I'm not bothered.

Funny enough my c-drive is my drive where all crap goes. All my programs and games are on p-drive and windows is on g-drive. Can't remember why it all changed, think I added a disk and it fucked things up somehow. Anyway reassigning drives is easy and as for having to edit the registry just export it. Do a find and replace in an editor like notepad then reimport it. Doesn't take long. About 15minutes if you know what is going on :)

Yeah but I don't... doesn't matter. You've all shamed me into guilty about complaining in the first place :p
