I'm looking for a apt (or apt-rpm) based, i586/i686 compiled nix distro to run as my desktop machine and I saw this Yoper (http://yoper.com) thing. Just while I'm downloading it, does anyone else know of any distros like this one? Debian (Sarge) is starting to slow down wayyy too much lately :(

if you like Debian then i recommend trying Gentoo.
It has a function similar to "apt" called "emerge", where you simply type "emerge -s *package*" to find what you want. Once you know the name of the package you just type "emerge *package*" & it installs it.
I run Gentoo on my personal desktop & have never looked back.

Yeah, tried Gentoo a while ago. It rocks ass, but the installation is the biggest bitch to do in the world. No way I'm doing that again.

Bah, it sucks ass. Either I'm too newb or something, or my ppp is just broke in Yoper. It seems to download at a max of about 1k/sec which is painful.
So meh, back to Debain for now. I'll be installing the new Slackware 10 soonish to test, I'll keep yas informed :)
sorry in advance for the following shameless plug ;-)
If you do want to learn how linux hangs together, there's no better way than building it from scratch.
