OK, here goes:

My girlfriends birthday's coming up and she's originally from Moldova but moved to the UK when she was 7. I'd have no problems getting good presents BUT I don't want to settle for good!

I'd like to get her some original artwork from Moldova ( or Russia) for her, doesn't have to be a professional artist but i'm just asking in case someone could help me with this....?

Anyone? Also any ideas or advice would be good bearing in mind i'm a semi-poor uni student.

Thanks,

please note if people start posting "funny" or "witty" replies i'll cry.

I'm not sure of where in the UK you are, but I was there a year and a half ago, doing the tourist thing. I spent quite a bit of time visiting English cathedrals and churches, and discovered that a lot of Russian icon-style art was for sale in church shops. Much of it has a religious motif, but from memory, I did find some that pictured non-religious imagery. The icons I found were made of blocks of wood, painted with egg tempera and gold leaf, and ranged in price from a few pounds for a miniature to hundreds of pounds for a large icon. Maybe you could look into that?

Damn it! Your right, i made up a girlfriend and stupidly said she came from a country that doesn't exist. Such a schoolboy error.

Well, you are quite right but after all, caring is sharing and it's nice to know you care.

I'm going back to uni next week so i guess i'll ask some other russian girls for help as they have friends and family over there. It also gives me something to talk about with them...or i could just fake it.

Thanks for your help
