So... Prompted by a discussion (http://forum.zgeek.com/showthread.php?p=357592) in the "i really need a root forum", I decided to post a poll.

Do you prefer someone you can geek it up with? or do you have a soft spot for those nongeeky types?

Hell, with enough beer, one can fuck just about anything

i voted 'A little from column a), a little from column b).'

the only relationship i've been in with someone i'd consider to be a geek was geekier than me, which was hard to handle :o

in the job she was in at the time, she spent a week coding image maps in notepad. while not extremely geeky, doing that shit for a week would drive me insane.

My last gf was geeky. Well, she knew the basics, I spose you'd call it. Diablo 2 and MSN. I got her on to IRC, which ended up being a bad idea... Because all that succeeded in doing was driving me out of those two channels.

as long as she (whoever it is) doesnt laugh at me when i say things like mirc, msn, lan, 1337, noob, pwned, cs, magic the gathering etc..then i'm cool *shrugs*...

I tried dating a guy who was less geeky than me once, it didn't work out... he sulked when I used irc instead of paying attention to him.

I also had a longish relationship with a geek, it was cool because we'd both sit at seperate PC's and play or chat with other people, and neither minded... or i'd sit and watch him play games...
Also we used to go lanning together, i miss lanning.

As I said before, it didn't work for me. As long as the girl doesn't mind if I am a geek and do geek it up it's fine. But when I went out with a girl who was a geek, most of our time spent together were on computers and barely talking...so yeah, maybe it's just my bad experiences, but I'm looking for either a non-geek girl, or a barely geekish girl...

I prefer someone I can have a real conversation with, which means someone intelligent, which a lot of the time also means someone at least slightly geeky.

you also have to define geek. law students can be considered geeks - they are brainy!

P.S. My definition of geek is not limited to computer geeks. It is way obvious that there are many non-computer geeks out there.

I don't really care if my partner is a geek or not. As long as I find them interesting and they find me interesting, that's all that counts.
Actually, I think that people who only date someone due to their chosen profession or hobbies are probably pretty shallow or boring.

Bah, sharing is caring buster, but then again my ex had limited PC skills so I was able to set him up a limited account on my PC and he didn't know how to get around it and I was happy knowing my PC remained unmolested.

And I used to run linux as my home desktop, and I will be running it again soon, along with a shiny new wireless network..ohhhhhh, nice.

I support (and not in quotes) a whole lot of Macs too, and a fair few Windows people nowadays (http://www.apple.com.au/ipod/) too. The Mac users are generally more knowledgeable than their Windows counterparts. But eh, this isn't going to go anywhere...

The problem is being a geek is more to do with my job, or what I do, not what I am. Although I don't mind geeky stuff I tend to avoid getting involved in any real depth. The girls I've gone out with have so far been almost techno-phobic. They left that stuff to me, also since they never really wanted to hear about that kind of thing I've learned exactly how much to tell people and become skilled at detecting that point at which their eyes glaze over.

Point being, coz of the people I tend to hang out with I doubt I'd ever meet a really geeky girl. I wouldn't be entirely adverse to it, but I try to keep computer stuff out of my social life since it dominates my work day...

Geek love is fantastic. Imp and I stayed up until 2am last night playing various versions of Total War - she's on Medieval and I'm on Rome.

I slept in this morning and the first thing she said to me when I finally reappeared was "Look, honey! I crushed those pathetic Aragonese!" to which my response was "Well done, babe. Last night I destroyed the Gauls!"

The only problem with Geek love is that when I try to sound like I know what i'm talking about she corrects me and makes me look silly. After a while i've learned not to shoot my mouth off ;)

Love it. Geek Style.
