I’m considering joining the job market again, purely for financial reasons.. I still love my job, but I can't afford to stay here.

But I'm stuck as where to start looking for work. Should I register with employment agencies? If so who? Any tips would be good. Also if you think you can offer me a job.. that pays about 40k a year, please let me know.

/me races Pirate to the Centrelink queue... AGAIN! :p

Yeah, I'm gonna be looking for a new job too. Seems that my current employer has given me all this responsibility and expectation, and they can't even be fucked paying me the amount that the promised months ago...

Sure, a journalist doesn't generally get paid that much, but you'd think that once you become the editor of a section of a magazine, you'd get more than a $1.4k.p.a payrise - especially after you were promised $6k.p.a when you took the role.

In any case, I'm protesting now by doing my job - and nothing more. And one of two things will happen - either I'll get fired because I'm only putting in the 38 hours that I'm entitled to work as stated in my job description (instead of the ~50 that I do put in), or I'll actually find a job and leave this place.

Hey, it's been good working here, but you've gotta wonder how the people who judge our salaries think they can get away with this kinda crap. :spingo:

Oh, and if anyone knows of any Networking/Unix/Windows Support/Admin/Design/Engineering roles, lemme know - I hold an MSCE (Win2K), AIX certficate, Telecomms Eng degree (practically - finishing the last elective now), and could re-certify myself as a CCNP at the drop of a hat...

can't offer much more than advice, i'm afraid. so, if someone offers you a job planting tulips - tell them "no"

Get on a plane, come to London and contract for a few years. You'll save enough to buy a coke machine refill franchise back in Oz and retire happy.

I forget the name of the Zgeeker, that did this a couple of years ago.

Pirate, what are your skills/exp and what kind of work are you looking for? I'm not a recruiter but sometimes you hear stuff...

edit: Perm only?

I'm also looking for a Lotus Notes/Domino admin role in the CBD if anyone needs an experienced admin. Happy to provide a resume on request.

Well, it didn't really take that long for me to find a new job. Today, I was offered an Network Design and Admin role at a company at Fox Studios. It apys over one and a half times that of what I was earning at my current job too. :D
