The reason I put NSFW as the post icon is because you're most likely going to ejaculate and mess up your pants while viewing this at work.
I stumbled upon some scanned pictures of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion here: Elder Scrolls IV scans (http://www.jucaushii.ro/imgcateg_844.html), and I have to say the game looks astonishing. The pictures you see are actually in-game graphics and not renders, I can already hear the wind in the grass and between the trees.

I've found out that this game is going to be released on PC, Suxbox 2 and GayStation 3. That is all for now.

Edit: Original link has stopped working but I found another one with the same pictures: Link 2 (http://deftonage.onestop.net/Screens/TES4/index.html)

I managed to find out this piece of information which is probably from the Game Informer magazine:

Horses and "other" mounts are in.

-The game is set in Cryodill. You are a prisoner and the Emperor is escaping the Imperial Palace after an escape attempt. The escape tunnel runs through your cell. You witness the death of the Emperor and as he dies he hands you an amulet and tells you to find the one who can close the gates. With the death of the Emperor and no apparent heir, the gates to Oblivion open throughout the world of Tamriel.

-Each NPC is completely different with unique and involved dialogue. NPC's follow schedules, go to work, to bed, have romances, families, lives, do chores, go for walks, go for adventures, visit family in other towns, Etc. For instance, a Farmer will go to his fields during the day to plow his grain, may take a lunch break, and go home at night to his wife where they go to sleep.

-The game will be smaller than Morrowind due to time constraints and because players like "a shorter game". It will be more expansive in terms of things to do however.

I need this game! This is not a want. It is a physical need. I am a huge fan of this series.

Morrowwind annoyed me, it took way too long to get an awesome character going and the mages really sucked.

But I will probably try this one out.

The official E3 trailer for Oblivion can be downloaded from here:

(84.3MB - High Definition DivX AVI Movie) (http://www.bethsoft.com/downloads/video/OblivionTrailerDIVXHD.avi)
(77.4MB - Hi-res Quicktime Movie) (http://www.bethsoft.com/downloads/video/OblivionTrailerLarge.mov)
(15.3MB - Low-res Windows Media Movie) (http://www.bethsoft.com/downloads/video/OblivionTrailerSmall.wmv)
http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/media_movies.htm

It looks good but for some reason not as impressive as the screenshots. It looks like they have got impressions from the Lord of The Rings movies. First of all the big oak picture on a door in one of the screenshots (FireHart noticed this), and secondly the huge tower in the trailer that looks a lot like the tower in Isengard and on top of the tower there is some zany king that looks like Saruman when he looks down at the burning city.

New screenshots can be found from the screenshots (http://www.elderscrolls.com/art/obliv_screenshots_01.htm) section again, and if you have not noticed, there are Oblivion wallpapers available in the wallpapers (http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/media_wallpapers.htm) section.

The direction the game has taken frightens me. The art and building style reminds me more of medival times rather than a new created world. It just doesn't look like it will feel like Morrowind. I realize that it won't, it isn't in morrowind, it's in some other land, but WHERE ARE MY DARK ELVES?! Also horses sound uber gay too. :fag:

Ok, upon watching one of the demo videos, I have to say that the game looks KICKASS! Horses still sound uber gay though.

And, no, I haven't played TES 1 and 2.

I'm happy that they brought back the random generated wilderness. It'll make the game much cooler when you can actually get lost in there.

Is it just me or is Morrowind shit house? The first time I played it I stopped after 10 minutes cause I got so piss bored. I don't care how big the world is or how much freedom you get, the fact that the gameplay feels shit makes the game shit.

Urban3300

If the forest is generated randomly when you explore it I wonder if the same trees and hills will be there if you go back? It would kinda suck if the forest was new all the time. That would mean the dungeon you found somewhere would be in a different place everytime.
I quit Morrowind when I could not kill a pathetic little worm with a longsword because in my character stats it said I'm proficient with the shortsword. I mean come on, the worm was right infront of me lying still and I can't kill him with a bloody sword? It should atleast make some damage. System Shock 2 was pretty good in this matter because even if you did not have very high stats for a weapon you could still kill someone with it.

From the sounds of things, Bethedsa's trying to figure out how to get mods to work on the 360 version.

So help me if I actually win the 19 40 40 competition and get a 360...umm, is it bigger or smaller than the original XBox?

my d&d gm was having a bitch, apparently the release was put back so that it was brought out on all platforms simultaneously (once xbox 360 is released). the pc and playstation versions are ready to go now.

I got morrowind game of the year edition a few months ago (all the expansions included) for xbox. it is ok, but I kind of got bored with it because it was taking so long to do the stupid main quest. boring. having to traipse all over the countryside is tedious, especially as you are only allowed to mark one location. unlike, say, neverwinter nights when you can mark up to 5 I think. and I HATE that stupid canton city - Vivec I think?

anyway, I hope the oblivion interface for 360 is better than morrowind was for xbox. which was so fucking clunky it sucked majorly. and I hope that they allow you to sort quests by alphabetically and by location etc - like in KoTOR II for example - instead of that stupid journal mechanism. half the quests can't be looked up in the glossary, and having to flip through hundreds of journal pages to find what you only half remember is a bitch.

Here's something you can use as a rough estimate to see if your rig can handle Oblivion. Look under "The Elder Scrolls" in the drop down menu.

http://www.srtest.com/referrer/srtest

I've got a 9600 XT as well, and my overall stats come up as just a shade under the recommended bar, but I'm well over the minimum. I probably need a faster CPU to bump it over recommended. Note that that test will penalise you if you dont have the 4.6GB hard drive space free.

Realistically it's going to be Morrowind++ with the +'s being the AI and graphics. Mind you, I thought there was ample RPG elements in Morrowind and open ended enough you could just romp around doing your own thing too.

Same deal as morrowind. More Customisable. There are now perks for maxing out skills. New physics engine. Terain is completely randomly generated outside of towns. 10 square miles to explore, compared to Morrowinds 2 square miles. Much more roleplaying opportunity.

My 2c

oh, Morrowind was ok. but there were very few decisions you could make in game that had an impact on the ending. For a game heavy on characterisation, see Planescape: Torment. Everything was changable based entirely on your actions. Not quite to the same extent but similar were Knights of the Old Republic, ever more so in Knights of the Old Republic II, and also Jade Empire.

Although there are definitely flaws in the way alignment / philosophy / morality can be presented in games, I definitely prefer the ones where the actions you take have consequences, and small decisions have have large ramifications. That makes, for me, a game more replayable than just taking a different class.

and I got tired of wandering around the wilderness with only one Recall spot. Even in Hordes of the Underdark you could have 5 memorised spots. It was the open endedness that ultimately let to boredom. I'll finish it at some point, but for now I really want to play a game with characterisations and consequences. I prefer to talk than to immediately go into combat.

Thyrd

In the game before Morrowind, Daggerfall, there were about 7 endings to the game. All depended on who you gave a special artifact to, and only royal blood could control it. The artifact controlled the numidium (the first akulakhan). Depending on who you gave it to, you would get a different ending, for instance if you gave it to the king of the orcs (Gortwog), he used it to rebuild Orsinium, the Orcs country.

Found out how to stop this.

This "ffdshow" thing keeps fucking up the game
One of the most common problems is that a program called "ffdshow" will show up and make many copies of itself while playing Oblivion, slowing down performance by a lot. This is caused by DefilerPak. To fix this, either uninstall DefilerPak, or go into Start -> DefilerPak -> Audio Options and disable Oblivion.exe. You need the latest edition of DefilerPak to do this, you can get that here.

If I were to upgrade only one thing, what would give me the biggest boost to performance? A new video card?
Yes. the 9600XT is a POS, i used to have one. I now have a Leadtek 6800GT TDH and it blows the shit out of the water. I haven't played Oblivion (yet) but it (along with my athlon 3200 venice core and 1Gb of RAM) runs BF2 on the highest settings at around 45-50fps.

Some more info for getting some better frame rates :

Read this if you have a Nvidia card
You probably want to install Coolbits (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=815) which is an enhancer for Nvidia's Forceware drivers. Some people have reported that using this nearly doubled their framerates with absolutely no hit in performance. After it's installed, to unleash the awesome power of Coolbits, go into Display Properties (right-click your desktop and click Properties) -> Settings tab -> Advanced -> GeForce * tab -> Performance and Quality Settings -> Additional Direct3D Settings. Set "Max frames to render ahead" to 0 (default is 3).

Where is Oblivion.ini?
My Documents\My Games\Oblivion

1. Go into Oblivion.ini and look for [OPENMP] and change the values to what you see here:

[OPENMP]
iThreads=20
iOpenMPLevel=20
iPreloadSizeLimit=1000000000

This has been reported to give a small FPS boost. It might be a bad idea to do this if you don't have a lot of memory.

2. This probably only works for cards with Shader 3.0. Anyway, go into Oblivion.ini and find bAllow30Shaders=0 and change it to bAllow30Shaders=1. This means it wasn't using 3.0 before but now is and has been reported to give a major FPS increase.

Does defragmenting help?
Yes, run a defragment before you play, preferably right after installation. I like Raxco PerfectDisk (http://www.raxco.com), it has a 30 day free trial, but normal ol Windows defragment should be okay. Some people have reported that defragmenting got rid of a ton of stuttering, some people say it does nothing. It can't hurt.

I'm retarded and I can't find the new Nvidia drivers
Click here (http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_winxp_2k_32bit_84.25.html). Don't worry if Windows says they're not supported, that's just Microsoft being dumb. <------ recommended as Nvidia released new drivers just for Oblivion :)

Also, make sure that you backup Oblivion.ini before you go making changes.

You could get a 360 and 6 games for that money and then when you upgrade your PC in 3 months time, the $1300 you were going to spend will only be $250.

Just got the 4 daedric books also. Even have 3 of the first copy. Got an invite to thieves guild and assasins guild. on the verge of challening for grand champion in the arena and have ranked up a few times in the fighters guild
the ffd show thing doesn't affect me on short play sessions, but yesterday i racked up over 12 hours and by the end my machine was dying pretty badly. Will try disabling/removing it as someone else suggested.
To get in to thieves guild, go to jail for theft. That's how i got my invite.
Been to jail for theft once, don't even know/remember what i stole.
Got accused of stealing from a fellow fighters guild member once, have NFI how that happened. I'm guessing he got KO'd and dropped his weapon in a fight and i picked it up by accident, so watch out for that. Have to find 20 bloody bear pelts to make up for the damned accident.

I liked Morrowind but i dare say i never got further than 10% into the game. But Oblivion is different.... you know the main quests so you never lose focus on how to get to the end, but it still gives you a lot to do inbetween.

I didn't like morrowind but i'm kind of enjoying oblivion. Apparently there's some "Scaling Difficulty" thing that means you never get in over your head...
Don't know if I believe it and it kind of ruins the sense of achievement you can get as well as preventing you from training up skills you're crap in on monsters that can no longer touch you.
I'm not running a shit hot amazing system. My current system is in the area of 9 months old, but was excellent when i got it and is runnign oblivion on high res settings.
There's some issues with AI flaws and ffdshow application in the game, but it seems to be pretty good otherwise.

EVERYONE should do the daedric quest for Nocturnal. The shrine is north of Leyawin on the east side of the river. Follow the road. The reward is the skeleton key. An unbreakable lock pick with unlimited uses that has a constant effect of +40 security.
I'm also up to the bit in the main story where you need to let the Mythic Dawn open a great gate at Bruma to get a great sigil stone. Still using the shroud armour from the dark brotherhood quests. The black hand robe and hood give more bonuses, but have no armour rating. Cruising through the arena. Nice money to be had there. Bought a house in Bravil. Currently Closing oblivion gates at other cities to bolster Brumas defense. Martin Looks badass in Tiber Septims armour.

Thyrd, you still haven't said thanks to me for telling you about that kickass lockpick. And one thing everyone should do, is download many mods for it. I have found the game so much more enjoyable since I installed a bunch of tweaks and bugfix mods.

One mod I suggest for EVERYONE is the one that makes your quest reward items level up with you (they level up to 25). This means that the boots of bloody bounding that you got during the dark brotherhood don't quickly become crap that you pawn off for spare cash.

I've been playing oblivion for a while now. The game has one big plus going for it as there is indeed (either plot-based, many side-quests or just pissing around the countryside,) a lot to do, and because of this it is quite a bit of fun.

But other than that it's hardly spectacular, In fact in some areas i'd go as far as calling it one of the most half-arsed and amateur efforts i've ever seen in a game of this scope (The voice-acting alone provides me with countless unintentional laughs due to it being fucking awful.) Even many of the supposed 'amazing features' would have been better if they'd been removed completely from the game as they only serve to cunt up the game even more.

Many people dismiss the flaws as being consistent with the genre of the game... Which is complete shit. There is absolutely no reason these parts of the game had to be so bad.

Someone told me there's a reusable soul gem. Now does that mean I can use it to soul trap repeatedly, or that I never have to trap anything in it and I can always recharge weapons? I suck at magic but stick want to recharge shits.

Oh and you know how you can enchant items at the arcane university? What are the limits on it? I cbf with the mages guild and so haven't become a full member, but am wondering if it's worth it to enchant my own stuff. So far I rely on sigil stones for that. Also if you save it right before you grab them, the one you get is random and you can reload till you get an awesome one you want.

Thyrd
