Why bother playing hockey at all, they should just jump into a boxing ring and beat the crap out of each other.

comon now, you have to recognize the beauty of hocky and how it brings together the holy trinity of modern entertainment: air conditioning, alcohol and wanton violence.

That's awesome! The officials just stand around and watch, they don't even try and break up the fight till right at the end! Are the fights part of the rules or something?

If you were an official, would you wanna get hit in the head with a hockey stick? 'Sides, they know the fights bring in the punters, which brings in the money. So what if someone's paralysed for life, they knew the risks
Hockey's more bloody and violent than boxing. No padded gloves and sticks means more chance of heads being cut open and blood spraying everywhere
A few years ago I used to watch Ice Hockey and yeah, most of the time the officials will just stand around and jump in at the end of the fight. I think they're just letting the players get the fight out of their system and giving the crowd something to get excited aboot. I mean about.
If the officials don't let them fight, sometimes as soon as the players have served their time in the penalty box, (sorta like a prison cell) they come right out and start fighting again.

No one will use their sticks in a fight. THe first thing that the players do in a fight is to drop their stick and gloves. Punches aren't as powerful as a normal fight either because they cant get good footing. So the punch is all arm and shoulder. Occasionally you'll get blood, but not as often as you think.
What really used to piss me off was when the players dropped their stick and gloves and just circled each other with their dukes up. They'd do it for a good 30 seconds until the officials decide that nothing is gonna happen and break up the fight. Someone throw a punch!

Double crosschecking from behind = 14 minutes in the sin bin
Only reason I know that is the guy who told me cut his head open on a barrier while speedskating the next day
I went to a fight one time and all of a sudden Ice Hockey broke out!
Are they playing this year? i heard it's all off...

Yup, no NHL this year. Some of the players are touring Canada to play a friendly tournament, with the proceeds going to children's charities.

I also heard that a bunch of Russian players have gone back their homeland to play whilst the NHL season is defunct. They even have a clause in their contracts that states they can go back to play if the season gets off the ground.
