vBulletin vs phpBB
I know Zgeek uses vBulletin, but ive never worked with vBulletin only PHPBB is it worth paying out for the licence or is their not much between the 2?
It is for a project where all i will have to do is be mod creating and deleting the accounts as necessary, it will be a private board aswell, and not open to the public with a about 100-200 users.
I will not be making any posts just making sure the infidels do not disrupt the board and any invalid users get deleted.

I have set up both & i found that phpbb was easiest to setup. But for me vbulletin is just a better admin setup & allows you to manage users alot easier.
My mate setup this for his clan just a few months ago & its been working great for him.

After having EXTENSIVE experience in setting up and managing both types of forum, my recommendations are as follows:
If you are catering for > 100 simultaneous users, vBulletin is what you need. phpBB uses lotsa server resources once you start getting a lot of people on the forum. Also, if you're looking at heavily hacking and customising your forum, also go vBulletin.
However, phpBB will be fine for most people 95% of time. It also costs nothing, and you can always migrate to vBulletin later...

Not really.
For starters, when you log in to the admincp, your forum does touch back to base to check version numbers and what not.
And it usually doesn't take Jelsoft to find copied forum. There was a time that ZGeek was using a pirated vBulletin, and it took them 3 weeks to start sending "buy or we'll prosecute" email.

Not a problme at all. vBulletin's IMPex util will import phpBB without too much drama.
