I've noticed this problem before, on another hard drive, but worked around it, or ignored it - I've forgotten.

Anyway, I've been trying to make some more space on the ~65GB partition because I want to re-rip my music collection to Apple Lossless. I've burnt and deleted a number of old mp3-encoded albums, and some anime that was just lying around. However, I noticed that the 'free space' shown in the 'My Computer' summary hadn't changed.

It says 2.25 GB, but it said 2.25GB before I deleted anything. I'm sure that I've gotten rid of at least 3 GB (I've burnt 5 CDs and deleted quite a bit of music), but there's been no change in the 'Free Space' part (yes, I have hit 'Refresh' a number of times). I'd prefer not to restart, although if it's required to fix the problem I will just wait a couple of days until I can.

Has anyone had this or a similar thing happen to them when deleting files in Windows 2000?

:edit:

Ok, for the record, I _had_ emptied the 'Recycle Bin'. But now it's gone and updated itself. I have no fucking idea what I did.

Thanks for the suggestions, anyway guys.

empty the trash can. free space doesn't get updated until you do that.

Yeah, and in future if you don't want to keep the shit you delete hold down shift when you press delete.
