best strategy game out

i'm looking to get a strategy game.

but there are so many.

what is the best strategy game out...

it can be old but it must be for pc only.

My money is either :
- Age of Empires 2 - Real time strategy action game where you collect resources, create different technologies and citizens and army, and go kill someone else. Emphasis is on tactics - battle tactics, defence tactics and self improvement tactics.

- Civilisation 3 - The best of the civilisation series to which I've donated slabs of my life. Play the Gods as you develop technologies, form alliances or enemies amongst rival civilisations and choose to be the dominant force. The use of 'Cultural Influence ' to influence your neighbours makes this the superior game in the genre.

yeh..finished age of empires 2

and lost heaps of sleep over civ 3 that i shall never really get back.

Believe me it IS good. I've only stopped playing because I have work to do and I only just got evil genius which is also very good but has some interface problems.

Rise of Nations wasn't bad either.

Rome: Total War if you want some serious strategy
Dawn of War is great but build more for multiplayer action. Its the game I have been dedicated to of late. I rate it better than Warcraft III
Civ III is always one to go back to.

Look out for LOTR: Battle For Middle Earth. This game look awesome and the troop Ai is impressive. (pyschology plays a big part eg fear)
