My copy just turned up from play.com, ah the smell of a new game manual. Anybody else play PES? I only played 3 very briefly but loved it, can't wait to have a go of this.

I've been playing this non stop for a week. I played PES 2 & 3 to death as well. Excellent game.

I used to play one of them about 4 or 5 years ago at a mate's house. I think it was ISS2. I loved it but my mate was always really good and ripped my defence apart with Ronarid for Brazil and Michael Oren of England.

The manual to pes4 is mental, how easy is it to get used to all the different 'moves'?

To be honest, I've just been wingin it with my PES 3 skill. I've learnt to do a 360 spin on the ball (like Zidane always does) but it isn't much use. It's just easier to sprint & pass around defenders.

Lots of "secret" moves are listed here (http://www.newstarsoccer.com/proevo.htm). I guess when I get some star power in my Master League team I can start playing with the moves. I'm just having too much fun picking and choosing my team right now :p

this could be a candidate for some wanplay, after the 6months it will take me to adapt to the difference in controls

Played through the dribbling, short passing, defence and attack Training Challenges last night before playing a couple of matches. Only scored one goal from open play but it was awesome, Roy Keane from 25 yards, in off the underside of the bar - must have been Keane 98 :D

The attacking training challenges were bloody frustrating, my second player kept running way offside so I had to fuck around holding off the defenders until he woke up. I hope the attackers are not so stupid in the matches.

I haven't even touched the challenges yet, I jumped straight into Master League. Here's my squad so far

3-5-2

------------------Cudicini--------------------

Glen Johnson --- Mellberg --- Valeny (Default team)

------------------Nakata--------------------

Macco (Default) -------------- Epimas (Default)

------------Lampard --- Kaka ----------------

--------------Ronaldo -- Reyes ------

When I get some more money for better players, I'll probably go to a typical 4-4-2

If you're starting out, make sure to trade for Nakata as soon as possible. He only has a salary of 200 which is cheaper than your default players, but he is much, much better than any of them. If you trade out an unused player for him, you'll pay 0 transfer fee, essentially getting a top-class playmaker for free.

I don't find it laggy at all. The only lag I see is during a cup presentation with all the players and confetti everywhere.

I'm running the PAL version at 50Hz. I hear the lag only shows up at 60Hz.
