Right. I never bought, burned, played or even cast an interested glance over the first Sims. I heard it was good, but just didn't care much.

Now I got the second one a week ago because it looked pretty schmick and because I was curious to see if it was any good.

I started by trying to create the characters from my book in the Sim-creator and I think they turned out quite good...Then I thought, why don't I create a Sim who is like me and see how they go (yes, I am a self-indulgent gender swapper)...(and an attention whore)...(just ask anyone)...

Anyway, now I've spent my entire fucking weekend getting my Sim a job, a girlfriend, a better job, more friends to make her happy (yes - her. Apparently unlike most US titles, it allows same-gender coupling) and now I'm sitting here about to leave work, thinking that perhaps I should go buy a bar for my Sim instead of a larger house because I have made her a slave to her now wife and three kids and enough is enough.

FUCKING GAME...FUCKING ADDICTED...FUCKING...FUCKING!!!!!!

Perhaps I should go home and work on my book like I should have done all weekend.

Call this a review if you like - this game is very good and very addictive. In fact the first time I left the me-like Sim alone to do whatever she wanted, she went to the computer and started playing games. Very real moment.

Any other future members of Sims-anonymous out there?

I spent a good 6 hours playing it while I was at work yesterday... (slapped wrists for me!) You are right.. I had to give the first Sims away because it was taking over my life, I think I have my addiction under control now with Sims 2.... plus the office is full today so I can't get away with playing it!!

I would recommend it to anyone who has never played either of the games before.

I really don't see what the appeal of the game is. There is almost nothing you can do in the game that you can't do in real life, so wouldn't it be more fun doing those things for real rather than sitting glued to a computer screen and screaming at anyone who tries to gently pull you away from the game to eat/sleep/toilet/work.

I'm not a sims addict, but i know people who are and it isn't pleasant.

My advice is if you have anyone of the female persuasion living with you (they are more prone to be addicted to the sims) and you see them looking at a sims box with a thoughtful expression on their face then quickly steer them out of the games store and into the nearest clothes shop.

It's certainly not possible to grow from a baby to a child to an adult is a few hours, get a job in a variety of industries, give birth without pain, with a gestation period of less than a day etc, etc...

It's fun, I think because it gives you odd little bits of perspective into other people's lives. I like it.

The thing I didn't like about the Sims is the whole eating, shitting batheing etc. It was like a glorified tamagochi.

If I want to see or do all those things I would get a camera to follow me around while I shit and work and watch it at the end of the day!!

Each to their own but it aint for me.

I was horribly addicted to the first Sims for the first month.. playing many hours every day. Damn them.

Then one day I weaned myself off.. just like that.. cold turkey.
I haven't been back since. I now have time to eat and sleep. And I'm back on the heroin which is much cleaner.

Don't feel bad. Since getting the Sims 2 I have spent many hours online finding them new clothes to wear, while my wife spends hours designing houses.

There is an algorythm that determines sexual preference in the Sims 2. I discovered this when I created a pair of roommates and let them do whatever they wanted. One turned out gay the other straight. Then I downloaded the demo of Sims 2 Enhancer which allows you to adjust the sexual preference of your sims.

PS: I totally walked pas my Sim in the street yesterday. This lady looked EXACTLY like my Sim - hair, cheekbones, jawline, even glasses...It was freaky...One of my gamer work colleagues suggested that she was probably looking at me thinking "fucking hell! That guy looks totally like my Sim!!"...Perhaps it's because I haven't played in a couple of days...

Oooh a gay algorithm! Excellent! I wonder how it was coded :D

Apologies to you real programmers out there :)

Public Sub gayAgorithm()

Dim isGay As Boolean
Dim lovesCats As Boolean
Dim lovesTheatre As Boolean
Dim mincingWalk As Boolean
Dim sim As Object 'dim sim!! hahaha

With sim
If lovesCats = True _
And lovesTheatre = True _
And mincingWalk = True Then
isGay = True
Call shirtLiftFunc(crossDress)
ElseIf lovesCats = True _
And lovesTheatre = True _
And mincingWalk = False Then
isGay = True
Call stillInClosetFunc
Else
Call drinkMoreBeer
End If
End With

End Sub

Either I stuck a lucky gay sim or the algorithm can be helped along by flirting...My female Sim hooked straight up with another female sim...Of course I did help matters, they didn't just get shagging by themselves...

Hello my name is Thuvia, and I am a Sims2 addict... Yes it is true, Sims2 is an evil, evil, vile, addictive game...But it is sooooooo much fun. You can "lead" your Sim into the gay or str8 lifestyle, but it is essentially up to the algorithm the game sets to them. There are programs(SimPE or SE 2) that allow you to adjust said algorithm. But isnt it much more fun to allow your little Sim to develop on its own?

Fuck the sims. I really dont see what is so addictive. Who wants to play a game where you have to go and make your character shit, sleep, cook, clean etc? Don't you do that enough in normal life?
After an hour of play I finally left the house, only to fall asleep on the pavement.

Took me about 5 minutes after that to quit, remove the offending software and get rid of the cd it came to me on.

My Sim is wacky

She became a lesbian, not that there is anything wrong with that. (ahhh seinfeld you are missed)

But now when her "life partner" goes to work some guy comes over and bangs her.

She still goes to bed with her "life partner" but throughout the day she is doing the neighbour.

Very Odd game, fun though, i enjoy the whole house building side to it. I have finally proven to myself that i dont have a creative bone in my body.

i have a friend who loves the gay, well he's not gay himself, but finds the whole concept irresistably funny, maybe he's a little curious who knows.
well i find it funny too, anyway..

so when he said he was playing Sims 2 i thought.. hmm.. i wonder what sort of character he will have, send me pics!

sure enough i get pictures of his character, wearing a leather vest with viking horns, being kissed by some curly haired dude on a disco dance floor

:D

It seems as though in their infinite? wisdom Maxis has struck again. With the new file system for Sims 2 ( the .Package file system), not only can you download custom content, but some of the hacks/mods the content creator has in their game. This is a known problem to the modding community:
http://www.modthesims2.com/forum_viewtopic.php?4.20607

So if anyone does download custom content, even from the "official" Maxis site, be careful. Most of the hacks/mods are innocuous enough individually, but some are not compatible with others, etc.

The above mentioned site also has some awesome skins, clothes, houses, mods, hacks and tutorials.
