I've found another game I can become totally obsessed with... Its... battling for my time along with playing warcraft 3 on battle.net

So, who has played it and what do you think?

It takes a while to get used to not having direct control over your minions, but I like the game.

It has character and charm. :)

I just... I dunno... I'm still discovering all the different rooms and things... and its so cool.

Heh. Just don't get discouraged when the 'good' troops come in and start wiping out large parts of your base and staff.

Theme Hospital maybe? That was made by Bullfrog...

He's talking about Dungeon Keeper.

Doh, shoulda realised - DK2 is sitting in my "nearly too cool to play" pile of games, along with theme hospital *grin*.

Dungeon Keeper rocked, as did number 2, though I played 2 more than 1.. I found that there was a pretty big balance flaw in the game in multiplayer..
basically you just get the rooms needed for black knights.. then thats pretty much all you build, and they knock the hell out of all the other creatures...

The moment that it really got me was when we were playing and could hear a faint music in the background and couldn't work out what it was.. A bit of scanning around and we came to the casino where a jackpot winner had gone off and everyone was dancing to 'disco inferno'.. very cool..

The game that followed DK2 was some space station builder game, quite similar, but not as good as DK.. oh yeah, "Startopia"

Glompbot

Startopia rocked.
I loved it so much.

I still have a copy of it, along with theme hospital :D

I love evil genius but it has some interface issues. Still so much character :d BTW the trick is to have loads of social minions to fuck with all the enemy soldiers heads.

apparently the original Syndicate was designed around the multiplayer aspect, which at the time was way ahead of its time. Multiplayer on pc networks was in its infantcy. But then that was left off of the finished game (I think it was re-introduced in an add-on). So the single player game rocked, but it would have rocked like ACDC if they had left the multiplayer part in.. i read this in the 'EDGE' mag a few months back

It's too slow. I barely got anywhere with it on Sunday, then looked at the time and I had lost 4 hours.

Astro bought it, I installed it, played it for a bit, uninstalled it. I still prefer C&C but still, it's very colourful and I like the way you can set traps for the spies and the level of spy increases depending on how infamous you are.

Maybe if I played it a bit more i'd get into it but I have so many games i'm playing with at the moment. It's on my "to play later when i'm drunk and can't handle the bob of my gun when I run in a fps" pile

The world needs another Syndicate. :(
as long as it's like the original Syndicate and Syndicate plus, not that awful Syndicate Wars, then yes, the world does need it :D
Is it just me, or was Syndicate way ahead of it's time? That game rocked!

I think I need to check out this Evil Genius game... I'd never heard of it until people started talking about it on here!

I don't find it slow at all, I've only been playing it for a few hours and I'm getting through it pretty quickly.

Maybe its because I'm used to this kind of game, the waiting doesn't bother me.
The only thing that shits me is having to move people over the world constantly to avoid heat, whilst keeping my income up.

And why don't the people dissappear on the world maps?
I've stolen 3 techies and 3 valets from asia, 3 guards from south america, and one of my own people back from mother russia... but they're still there!!!

Use Valets. Lots and lots of Valets.

You can train new staff you know. ;)
The guys on the map are there if all of a type of specialist die.

It's only slow as you need to steal money, otherwise it can go quite fast. I managed to get up to about 13 million before my patience gave out. After that I just went crazy with the missions.

Still it's fun if you stick with it. Currently I have to make use of the damned console since I got two minions stuck and I can't seem to kill them or make them move. Seems like a bug.

DK and Syndicate where both great games. Still have them both myself. I agree that some one should pick them up and make a new one, but it's unlikely that would happen, and if it did, it would met fan expectations.

Glompbot
02-11-2004, 10:20 AM
Ah, valets are better at stealing? I've just been using workers... Thanks for that.

And I have been training new staff, except i had no money so I didn't have a class room until now.

BlueBoy

Valets are great for diverting Heat, Guards are great at stealing money and Technicians make jobs go quicker. :)

Don't forget to use your henchmen as well. Depending on who you have, so are good at stealing or making missions go smoother. But then if you have a lot of heat it might be best to keep them at the base to get rid of all those pesky agents and soldiers that pop up.

I wanna play it... *im hinting your direction Imp*

as for syndicate, i only played the original on my old Amiga 500..

It would probably make a good tactical shooter, along the lines of the rainbow 6 games.

Got this game two days ago.. must hav played at least 12 hours of it so far...
I abandoned my first base and started anew with a MUCH better throught out design. I have an interconnected network of wind traps at the entrance that keeps 90% of agents etc out of the base COMPLETELY. Because of this, hardly any get sent to the island because no-one can find any incriminating evidence! Woohoo!
I'll see if i can post a screen shot of it in action. It's so simple but so effective.

Huzzah.
Glad to see so many people are interested in this absolutely fantastic game.

You all know theres a multiplayer addon in the works right ?

EDIT -

OH! and that reminds me
you want another syndicate ?
Then you want "BLUE VAULT" The next game being released by Elixir ( Makers of Evil Genius ). Not many details have been released yet, but the screenshots look very Syndicatey.

Mmmm, Syndicate

Looks like a cross between The Sims, Syndicate and some weird kind of ball game, hehe

This is what seems to work so well... the only thing
I'd change is making the entry/exit corridoor shorter so people get ejected ALL the way out instead of just outside the door.

I hate you. You're too good at this game.

I've had to restart the game again!

Canalien

Well this is better for the beginning when you're mighty understaffed. This can take care of as many people they can possible throw at you all at once. A few get through sometimes but they're easy to take out. After a few times getting blown out of the room they seem to just give up and run away.

I'm having a LOT of trouble holding super agents prisoner. At one stage I had two being held prisoner at once, and they kept escaping and I had to recapture them. I can't kill 'em or interrogate 'em. All I seem to be able to do is hold them in their cells until they escape and then put them back... anyone else have this trouble?

Im playing the demo, and I cant interogate the petty thief. When I click on the chair to interogate him, nothing happens. Parhaps a bug in the Demo? Otherwise, excellent game.

you cant hold any one in the cells for long - either they end up dying or escaping... first time i realised this was when i found my security room totally trashed and both the agents roaming around my base
