Welcome to the Zgeek Creative Writing Forum!

The purpose of this forum is to provide a space for serious literary discussion, as well as give you an opportunity to share any work you may have done, and gain inspiration from the works of other members.

Myself and BifFrost will be moderating this forum, and we hope that we can create a safe and insightful area of the site to explore the literary works from the many different geographies that make up the Zgeek membership.

If you have any ideas about what you’d like to see in this forum, punt an email off to myself or BiFrost, and we’ll see what we can do.

Any aspect of literature is fair game: poetry, prose, editing methodology, critical theory, manuscript submission, publication tips, freelancing, and any other related topic you can think of.

THIS FORUM WILL BE HEAVILY MODERATED.

Sorry to strap on the jackboots, but the very nature of this forum requires more rigorous policing than the rest of the site. Why? Because writing (especially for newcomers to the craft), is a fragile, tenuous thing.

FLAMING ANY KIND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

Criticism of style, structure, theme, etc. is fine, as long as it is not of the “SUXOR GHEY FAG!!!” type response. When in doubt, ask yourself whether your response will encourage the author. If not, don’t bother posting, it will be removed.

People may be expressing their deepest emotions in their work, which takes courage, and an appropriate level of respect and dignity must be maintained. Remember, art is subjective, and what you think “blows goats” may resonate deeply with someone else. For example, I absolutely despise Margaret Atwood’s writing (I’m a traitor to my country, I know), but I would never say she “sucks,” her work just doesn’t do it for me personally.

A couple of pointers when submitting your work:

1. Please do not plagiarize. While it would be impossible to source-check every piece that gets submitted, please remember that someone worked hard to produce the copy that you wish to cut and paste to pass off as your own. You wouldn’t like it if it were done to you, so play fair.

2. Watch your length. No one wants to read your 800 page novel if you try to make it a “post.” If you wish to submit a longer work, please attach it as a Word document or PDF, or link to it on your own site.

3. Submit as much as possible when pished, or under the influence of recreational drugs.

I give mad throbbing props to Pirate for allowing this forum to be created. Hopefully, over the coming months, we can create a very unique corner of Zgeek, and hone our skills in the meantime.

Cheers
