What would be worse admiting your gay to your friends and family or being AGORAPHOBIC (a fear of open spaces)

Don't know 'cos I haven't experienced either. I suppose both would be pretty scary. With my Dad, it would probably be coming out of the closet. Although these days he's pretty chilled out.
Do you suffer from either? What is the name for fear of coming out of the closet to your parents?
Or are you just making a funny? :D

i personally have not experienced either but i would imagine that being afraid of open spaces would be worse just becuase lets face you would have no life unless you walked around in like a bubble or something also i thought it was quite a gd way to introduce a topic coming out of the closet is a term for being gay and if you where agoraphobic you would not want to come out of the closet becuase it is a closed space and you would feel safe there see its clever and witty all at the same time yay the me

I got the joke, claustrophobia/agrophobia thing. Just wasn't sure as to whether you were trying to tell us something else or not.
If people tell you to look before you leap, what happens if you suffer from catapedaphobia?

'Guess what Dad, I'm gay! Hey, at least I'm not agraphobic'
Aren't all geeks a little agraphobic?
Edit: I've just realised it's you Dan!

They are the same thing, all days that have come out of the closet are instantly agrophobic. Didn't you know that?

On a side note (and a double post) I have medectophobia.
When the actor Nathan Lane (currently starring in The Producers in the West End) was 21, he told his mother he was gay. Her response was, "I'd rather you were dead." Lane riposted, "I knew you'd understand."
I believe that for most gay people, that is their biggest fear - their families not understanding and saying stuff like that...
Funny, funny people....

People frequently think I'm gay, including my family.......until it got to the point that they'd prefer me to be gay if it meant I'd get out more(not through fear of the spaces but through discomfort with being around other people)

*Ding ding ding* We have a winner.
Loss of family is basically loss of the entire base of your support structure. I have a friend who lost his family this way. He is not a happy man.

now lets mess things up a bit what if your a claustrophobic homosexual you would wanna get out of that closet as soon as possible really mind you we havnt really talking about the dimensions of the closet much what if its like the closet or wardrobe in the lion the witch and the wardrobe then if you where agoraphobic you wouldnt want to be in that closet but if you where a claustophobic homosexual you would be quite happy staying in the closet this closet does need closer analysis before we judge i suppose i should of thought things through before i started this damn me and all my ways damn them all the way to hell my life is self destructive

But we should really get back to the point homosexuality and agoraphobia plus the main hot point at the moment how big is the closet please feel free to throw in ideas you might have or ways to solve these problems

Well, until they come out every gay man/woman is in the closet. And its THE closet, not A closet, so they're all in the same one.
In Australia alone there are around 3 million gay people (last statistical estimation was 14% of 20 million people). Australia has approx .33% of the world's population (20 million out of 6 billion), so therefore this closet can hold at least 800 million people.
It's a very big closet. Narnian in fact.

Now take into effect if you where agoraphobic would you be in fear if you where in this closet or is it quite tight so the effect of all the gay ppl who havnt come out of the closet keep you feeling inclosed and safe unless your a homophobic agoraphobic then you probably wouldnt enjoy the fact that there are about 3million gay australian ppl squashed next to your bum but you wouldnt fear the open space even thought its no inclosed so those that stop makng it a open space and also how tall is the top of this closet surely this has to be taken in to consideration as well

The height would only need to be enough to enclose the tallest person, so say 9 feet tall to accomodate gay basketball players.
Since the number of gay people in the world constantly increases as the population does, the closet is probably made of some kind of stretchy latex-like material. Thus those that are homophobic agoraphobic could make a little pocket for themselves, those that are just agoraphobic can cling together and those that are claustrophobic can form groups of 3 or 4 and stretch out big empty triangles and squares.

Now we have taken care of dimensions and material we still need to look at the factor of the location of this massive gay latex wardrobe but i like the latex idea i think the gay community would appreciate it

it is truly harsh but at least he still has a friend in t101 there is some hope and lets be fair he wouldnt of been happy if he spent his whole life lying to ppl and not being his true self its amazing what time can do and you never know his family might come round to there senses lets hope they do at least give my respect to your friend t101 he's a braver man than most

but on a lighter note where are we going to fit this massive closet
Oyster

I would say its some sort of interdimentional thing... with nexuses in places like San Francisco perhaps? Where there's an extra large door out of the closet?
I couldn't post this last night due to a little ZGeek glichette, so I'll do it now instead....
The closet, since it encloses people all over the globe (and theoretically the universe - where ever a closeted gay person is, there's the closet) must be omnipresent. It also knows who to enclose and who not to enclose, so it must be omniscient. The closet protects its inhabitants from harm, probably requiring omnipotence.
Thus God is a big pink latex closet.
NOW who's on drugs bitch! :D
That is seriously fucked up and so unfair, but it does happen.
Sadly yeah :(

I'm afraid of open spaces. It isn't all that bad. But being a fuge packer would be awful. I wouldn't want to touch my dick after it had been up some guys bung hole, would you? How would I masterbate?

the major issue here, is what are you more scared of? being contained by something that you have the possibility to change (agoraphobia is your problem, and thus, through whatever processes you can change it) or having your family (potentially) excommunicate you... something that it is harder to change (change in one person is harder than changing a communities perspective)
