Since I've been mostly wearing headphones for the last few years, and I'm rather sick of them to be honest, I was hoping for any suggestions to which speakers to get. I was thinking on the lines of THX compliant ones to compliment my SB Audigy2 ZS Plat I just bought. Problem is, I have no idea if I should go the 5.1 or 7.1. This is strictly for gaming only, so don't know if THX ones would be worth the extra price tag.

Any recommendations?

edit: Asking this question here since I want it for gaming and gaming folks should have some opinions about how games sound right.. :p

Does anyone else use the computer room?..especially when you are gaming?

I find it much more preferable to game with good headphones, i find the immersion better.

5.1 sound is probably all you need, as 7.1 is probably just software enhancement and not true 7.1

Best value for money 5.1 I have seen (and have 2 sets myself) are the Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5600. You can pick em up for $230 *insert shameless plug*Just check your local GW =)

I'm running a logitech Z640 5.1 set and it's pretty sweet.

However, if you are planning to go 5.1 it is essential that you have room for the speakers, centre usually goes in fornt of your monitor and front left and right should be at opposite ends of the desk.

Rear left and right should be the same height and distance from your ears as front left and right, but behind you. Sub goes under the desk.

If you don't have room for all the speakers or you have one of those shitty computer desks that you buy in the shops then you should go with a 2.1 set.

Sounds good enough after looking into them. Problem is, I can't find them since they've been replaced by the 5700 for double the price. Plus my local GW didn't have speakers last time I was in there. Well from memory since it was a very small store.

Ok either hit Imperial arcade store (Pitt St) or Broadway (broadway shopping centre) both will be selling at the $229 price.
If they have sold out, tell them to call Belco and I'll send em up.
Oh and tell them Greg from Belco sent you and they will know what is going on.

as for the size of the box 30x40x40cm and weighs approx 10-12kg
