What will Blizzard do next?

Traditionally, Blizzard have two to three projects running at once. Now that World of Warcraft is out (and only needs maintenance) and Starcraft:Ghost is mostly outsourced there would be room for at least one more project.

The current franchises are so rich that they could easily create a few more games out of them, but I'd like to see what else they can think up.

I remember reading that an employee let slip that Diablo III was in secret development. But what other catagory would you like them to have a go in? Personally, I'd just like to see them do more sequels :p

Or the ring atoll map. That map is one of the coolest around.
Also, the game was coded so well. It playes perfectly on my P2 300 with all the upgrades and at least 600 units at once. BEST GAME EVER!

And yea TA fuckin rocks i used to play that heaps on the net, 2 many awesome battles to count. Every so often you'd get that one battle that was a draw and it would come down to whoever with the most nuke launcers / counter nuke launchers and 20 decoy commanders trying to find the real one to hit. That game gave meaning to the rts term "painting"

I bought Diablo 2 and the expansion, one of the few games I've played all the way through twice, once with the original and once with the expansion. That end of game bad guy in the expansion.. too camp to live!

My favourite monsters were those cute little pygmy dudes, they were real pains, half of them with their big knives running up and hacking you, half with blowguns hanging back and peppering you with darts (and running away if you get close) and then the odd Shaman who would jump on top of another pygmy and attack you with a flame spell which would kill you in a couple of seconds if you didn't run away fasst enough.

Also a great game to play cooperatively with the missus. :D

Dablo 2 never really didnt do it for me (although I agree with fastfood about those pygmies, they were funny), I never really got much of a chance to play starcraft (always played it at a friends house), but from what I have played it seemed quite good.

I was really looking forward to starcraft - ghost till they fucked it up. Now Im not even going to bother looking at it. I hate it when they re-design games over and over before it has even been released. Get an idea and stick with it for fucks sake!

How much of Starcraft is ripped off from other games/films etc?

Possibly everything comes from something else, all the way back to whatever early sci-fi stuff was made ... but Starcraft itself, great game though it is, seems devoid of any original ideas. Warhammer 40,000 were doing Space Marines, Tryanids/Zerg (the original being 'Genestealers' based on 'Alien') and Eldar/Protoss (based on Elves from Tolkien from ... Celtic Myth?)

I've played the new Warhammer 40K RTS game a few times now, its pretty good but too complicated I think, what with all the individual weapon upgrades and so on. Starcraft has a simplicity and ease that makes it great to play. Send a few Mutalisks agains an anti-air tower and a couple will die, but they will destroy the tower in about 30 seconds. The building and towers in 40K though, seems to take forever for them to be destroyed, and for that matter most units seem to have very high health over attack ratios, dealing little damage but having lots of health.

40k is reasonably balanced. you just need to be bringing the right units for the job. otherwise you will fail.

I love the depth and compexity of the Warhammer 40k universe (the vanilla Warhammer one is excellent as well)

40,000 years in the future the human race has spread to the corners of the galaxy... its a grim and war torn place with noting really nice about it. The alien races are cool.. Chaos freakish demonic hoards, Eldar the last remnants of a once powerfull race (they brought the chaos 'eye of terror' into the galaxy and destoryed their own civ), Tyranids, ripped off from aliens, but kind of cool.. Orks, fungus based life forms!

what else? its been ages since ive read any of their stuff but playing 40k on the pc has rekindled my enthusiasm for their work, i was just disapointed the game didnt have more artwork, graphic images and so on. Warhammer have a very rich IP

i mean, even with heavy weapons towers take a hell of a lot of shots to take down, you can't do it with a sneaky small group, hit and run style

but don't get me wrong i like the game, i just think starcraft has better mechanics

Blackthorne was an awesome game. I only got to play the demo, but I liked it very much from what I play. Sort of like Prince of Persia, but with a gun!

blackthorne was sweet. actually used it in an argument with a friend today.
i remember the final boss being a pane in the ass though. Was that game on Megadrive or 386/486.... I can't remember.

anyway back to 40k. You can do damage with small sneaky groups. get to know the game a little better you'll see. it depends on what side you're using. but it's really all about the right squads, with the right weapons at the right times. You can crush an oponent within 5 minutes in that game if you rush hard enough.

*sigh* fucking laptop was bought 'not for games' cos i have a desktop pc back home for that. pity its 14000 kms away. shouldn't be too long before i get back into it.

Never played Dawn of war or 40k, but I have played Disiples. Anyone like this game? I picked up Disiples 2 and all the add-ons in a nice little bundle for $30. Its a pretty looking game, but I found it rather skin deep, and annoying when playing the undead. Although the Elder Vampires are fucking kick ass to use!!

Honestly though I think blizzard may be working on something new and different. I believe they would probably like to keep their edge and not get stuck in releaseing the same tittles over and over again.

Im sick of warcraft. The first one was awesome but the second and third ones sucked major ass.

Yeah, very badly. I fear that the MMORPG is way to easy to screw up, and the bigger the project the more problems that will be encountered. Good luck porting Diablo MMORPG to a console.

And the worst part of it will be the monthly subscription fee. US$30 a month, no thankyou.

Man Dawn of War is easily superior to starcraft. Theres far more strategic depth to it, the squad based combat works perfectly, and things like cover and high ground make individual firefights work so much better. I've had a single squad of marines with a commander hold a crater against constant enemy(AI) attack for like half an hour nonstop.

And the criticism about it taking ages to destroy a tower or something was completely unbased, its simply because in DoW they decided that a machine gun or an axe shouldn't really have any effect against a fortified building, if you want to destroy a tank, you have to use a missile launcher or something, not have a bunch of orks hacking at it with axes.

IMO Starcraft is the best strategy game ever made. I remember back in my prime I was the best player out of every single person I knew. I could defeat Koreans on Battle.net even. I would come up with the wackiest strategies on the spot.
One time this Korean built photon cannons at his choke point right at the start. I did a 4 man zealot rush and simply walked past his cannons without even touching them then proceeded to pwn his nexus.
Those were the days.......
So yeah, Starcraft II would be the fucking most anticipated game for me right now. World of Starcraft wouldn't be a bad idea either. I'd go Protoss and charge my warp blades before battle screaming: "MY LIFE FOR AIUR!!!!ONE!!11!"

Blizzard North (the Diablo guys) have advertised for a Project Manager for an upcoming RPG.
Doubt it'll be a MMORPG though.
