The best part of Zgeek is the forums, in particular, the events section.
I think it'd be good to be more aware of what's new & happening in the forums on the front page.
My suggestion: Have a list showing the single newest thread from each section; the newest from General, Discussions, Events etc etc.
If not that how about bringing back the 'Zgeek events' bit on the front page but make it auto-update.

I dont really see the need for this.
You just have to look in the events forum to see that people do read the events threads (you can see how many views they have had).
Also, people could start utilising the calendar feature of the site for events instead of the silly things that some people are putting in there... (which is amusing, don't get me wrong! :D ).
I think the problem is, we don't really do any proper site organised events anymore. It's mainly just one person wanting to go to some place, so they start a thread asking for people to come along... not really a zgeek event that way...
I want parties, trips to restaraunts and rodeo clowns! just like how we used to do... (except for maybe the clowns... :p )
Putting events up on the main page isn't really going to make people come along.... although it may encourage lots of n00bs and freaks that we don't know....
sorry for the ramblings... just my 2c
