Must I choose? Dawn of War, or Rome: Total War, or Half Life 2. We've really been spoilt for choice this year.

Poll lacks Evil Genius and Links 2004.

So it's totally a competition as to how many PS2 gamers we have vs. how many PC gamers...
You lucky ducks with both are in for a fight with yourselves...The question is: can your mouse finger defeat your analog stick thumb??
For me: totally Half-Life 2.
But I don't have a PS2. And I fear Rome: Total War so much that I haven't installed it yet. My relationship could not handle Dawn of War, The Sims 2, Half-Life 2, GTA: Vice (yes I just started playing it recently) and Rome: Total War all at once...
Holy shit - to think Half-Life 2 has beaten Dawn of War as my fav game of the year. Fucking hard choice though, being a former 40K gamer...

UT2K4 for sure!!!
Close second is Half Life2

I voted Halo 2 (Xbox). Only because Need For Speed Underground 1 & 2 aren't there... They are the shiznit! Boishaka!@@!

I haven't played GTA: San Andrea yet but i'm guessing thats better than all the others in the list, except for maybe burnout 3 which I also haven't played.

we need a category split
-console : gta-sa
-pc : hl2
-mulitiplayer : ut2004

Burnout 3 is good but it gets really, really repetative after a while.

Nah those categories suck. You need to do it in terms of genre and console; ie rts, rpg, mmorpg, fps, racing, etc etc

I thought Unreal Tournament 2k4 was good, but just got too repetitive after a while. I am playing Halo2 now, and it is pretty good, although not much different from number 1.
Rallisport2 on xbox was my favourite racing game this year.

We need starcraft 2. Not shitty starcraft ghost, A fully 3d and fucking unreal sequel to starcraft. Doom3 was good, but it was too scripted too be that remarkable. You always knew that if you picked up that piece of armor you were about to be swarmed by 50 fucking demons.
The sims 2 was fun aswell. There was a jolly good time to be had playing that.

Easiest response is not Halo2. But the greats that im playing atm are HL2, GTA, Doom3, Rome Total War and Far Cry, there are just too many great games this year to single one out.
You should add Metroid Prime 2 : Echos to that list
because it's freaking amazing.

It'd be either Half-Life 2, Rome: Total War or Soldiers: Heroes of World War II. The latter hardly anyone has heard of, but it is seriously a killer of basically any game in its genre.
Certainly is a sleeper hit that slipped under the radar - the game is SO much fun multiplayer, and has an awesome singleplayer and physics engine...
Why do good games not get the attention they deserve sometimes? :/
The Avatar

Because there is not enough options in a regular poll. Only 15 options allowed maximum.
You should add Metroid Prime 2 : Echos to that list
because it's freaking amazing.
Where where where?!!!?!?!?!? ME WANT!
er, Go buy it ?
;)
It's A gamecube game, so you're not likely to be able to aquire it illegally.
Well worth the purchase in my mind though

Hehe, yeah - I didn't mean a downloadable version. I haven't been in a games shop in a while - I didn't even realise it had been released until now.
Yep :D Got Released on the 2nd.
Im off to play it now in fact.

Halo 2 wins hands down for me, it's so fun online and over LAN that I just can't stop playing it. Half Life 2 is good but not great, worth considering is that in the time it took Valve to make Half-Life 2 Bungie made Halo 1 and Halo 2. I found HL2 to be full of gimmicks which made it fun first time round but didn't leave me wanting more. As for GTA: SA, I'm not going to judge it at all until I get it on a PC or an Xbox; the ps2 just doesn't do it any justice at all.

Sambo- i knew you would pick UT2K4, that's all I hear you raving about :D
For me.... ummm Doom 3 was pretty spectacular and eve though I don't own a PS2... i still think GTA:SA rocks for open-ended gameplay alone.
And for anyone that thinks Halo 2 is good or even great.... you need to be taken out the back, staked down to the ground and raped by a camel :p

I've played almost all the games on this list.
Halo 2 = Crap.
Half Life 2 = Crap.
Burnout 3 = Good
Dawn of War = Very Good
GTA:SA = EXTREMELY Good
But WoW = Holy Grail
I have to change my first post I think... Planetside = the best game of the year for myself... and I reckon it kicks arse over all other FPS for lots of reasons.
In fact I'd be willing to give out ten day trails to people willing to give it ago :D
www.planetside.com
Put it this way, I played it for about 8 hours last night :D

I like Burgertime.
You are a chef and you have to run over giant hamburgers while you are chased by murderous sausages and eggs with only a pepper shake to save you.
What a plausible and brilliant game idea.

Overall...DoW.
finally Games Workshop got it right.
HL2 is very close though..it even got me playing CS Source.

Half-Life 2 -- great graphics and great game
Halo 2 -- AMAZING online and multiplayer gameplay, but the campaign mode was like playing half of a game at best
WoW -- Satisfied my bungie needs nicely
Metal Gear Solid 3 -- Not as good story wise as mgs1 (not too big a fan of the 007 aspects of it) but i loved the versatility.
but overall, i'm gonna say the "penis game" during exams.

It's a hard choice between Half-Life 2, Far-Cry (except the ending) and Dawn of War.

Burnout 3 got my vote
Held my interest longer than Halo 2 or Half-Life 2 did. Haven't ever played UT2K4. NFSU2 isn't really my type of game.
Simcity 4 still r0x0rs in my opinion. Though if San Andreas were out on xbox........

HL2 - its exciting at least the first time around. Above all it has a GREAT graphics/physics engine! I think there is alot more potential than people give it credit for here, alot of room for mods or future games. Vote 1 for Hl2 game of the year__
Doom3 - Got boring too quickly and maybe the developer is showing his age, it was pretty oldskoolin with a big boss and repetitive gameplay...apart from that the doom3 engine is good also but not up to HL2s physics and its lower system requirements..
GTA - its just getting closer to WoW and all the quest games with its level ups etc. They kid themselves they have done something new... that being said its GREAT FUN but hardly innovative.
Farcry - Solid game, but myeh..
Halo 2 - Great fun! had the improvements everyone was asking for which is all it takes to make a good sequel really, the controls are what makes this game good too. A game made to suit the system!

ah, only tried Halo 2 this year, it was ok, i mean we all know it whooped anything put out by PS2 this year, but it had its days numbered...
i know i'm going to sound up myself, but i just couldnt stop beating people, after while, it got old.
still an awesome game though, and UT04 is awesome, gotta love the cars.... DIE FUCKERS.

This one was a toss up for me between Half Life 2, which is very pretty, and Sims 2, of which I am a huge fan.
I chose Sims 2 simply because while HL2 is indeed very great, (I watch over my bf's shoulder) the experience is over when you come to the end of the story/game.
I suppose you could play it again, but what's the point?
With the Sims series, there is no end. There are no winners or losers, you just play it forever, building up neighbourhoods, buisnesses and families as you go.
I have gotten more than my money's worth from every sim game that I buy. By the time the next expansion comes out, the previous disk is quite worn.
It was a very close call though.
how about DDO:stormreach ??
thats up there
