How does everybody feel about interracial relationships??.... after my recent visit to an asian-american chat forum i've learned that some people get quite fired up and it's a very controversial issue...
or are you like me...and don't think it's an issue at all??

we had a kick ass time...and now that she's back in Vancouver and i'm back in Ohio (we are presently attending college) we are looking forward to next summer where i will go to China with her so we i can meet my future parents... (we assume we will be married within the next 5 years)... (we can expect more photos posted here after that trip if anybody wants to see them) she's actually a citizen of China..so we have many kick ass conversations...we both like to weigh in on each others' country's political escapades....

all in all, i guess this thread was really just a reason for me to post a picture of me and my hot ass girlfriend...feel free to agree that she's hot ;-)

In somewhat the same vein as this, if anyone has seen the film "Bulworth" it's got an interesting message. The movie's got Warren Beatty and Halle Berry (before she was really known). Ultimately the main character (Beatty) is this traditional American politician. He's coming up on re-election and his campaign stresses the white-america family values and blah blah...
His character hates his life so much he puts a mob hit out on himself. Ultimately the character gains an interesting connection to the urban/black community and their mindset. In one of his news interviews he starts talking about certain issues and he says something along the lines of "fuck black people". This statement catches the reporter and the crew a little off guard, he then goes on to say, "fuck white people too". He goes on to explain that everybody should fuck everybody else, and everybody after that should fuck everybody else, if we all fuck each other then it would end the problem of racial differences (well, to an extent) and we could end one of the potentials for conflicts in regions.
I thought that, although the movie is a little tedious at times, (trying to get past Warren Beatty's rancid attempts at rapping) I feel it has a pretty powerful message for as little box-office success it received. If you get a chance, might want to pick it up, some interesting points of view on things. Heh, everybody fuck everybody else...then we only need to worry about ohh, religions, nationalism, and various other clashes of cultures and we could all try to figure out a way to destroy ExxonMobil, among others.

I was going out with a gorgeous girl of very fair complexion (Yorkshire parents)... a Shire girl actually. (those who don't know.. citizens of the Sutherland Shire believe they live in God's country.. and is actually one of the whitest areas of Sydney). At times, the contrast between out skin colours was pretty dramatic.

I would imagine that you're on the right track with thinking that this sort of thought process stems from the whole "women as our property" thing. Same here. Married my Partner of 7 years back in March. She's Indian and did a years industrial training which involved her living down in the Shire for a year. Ppl are very closed minded down there - constantly getting stares.. nothing nasty but it was more of a look of suprise. Still notice the occassional stare but it's such a common thing nowdays. I feel sorry (and alot of respect) for the "pioneers" who coupled up back in the 60's - 80's.

One of the best parts of being in an interracial relationship is the cultural exchange (and fluid exchange). It's fun introducing someone to new foods, ideas, customs etc. and fun on the receiving end too.

Let's see.. Indian food, a heck of a lot more festivals and 2 "christmases" in quick succession (Diwali being their equivalent of xmas). It works both ways and I'd say both families have benefitted from the experience.

Interracial relationships is a non-issue for me. For years Ive been attracted to white guys, basically because I think they are cute, was never really interested in any Aboriginal guys, even if they were good looking. That was until I met the man of my dreams. He's an Aboriginal guy, but he's fairer than I, and as its not an issue with us, I know when we go out there are plenty of people who stare at us wondering what this white guy is doing with the black chick. Personally I dont care as its an issue for them to sort out. We're happy, our families are happy as are our friends.

Race is definitely not an issue. However, I'm the product of an interracial marriage (father is Indian, mother is white) and after 30 years together, my parents still get some funny looks from people. Once, a few years ago, my parents, my younger brother and I were having dinner with an older couple we'd met while in America and out of nowhere, the wife started bitching about interracial marriage, saying that it was evil and wrong and that she would disown any of her children who dated anyone who wasn't white. Not that it bothered my parents -- they just shrug it off and laugh.

Come to think of it, I don't think that anyone in my family has married someone of their own race. Two of my Indian cousins have married Greek girls and one has married an African American and my uncle (Indian) married a white Canadian woman.

So, who gives a shit?
