View Full Version : December Photo Competition Rules etc.

Hey Guys.
New month, time for a new competition.
Theme: Party/Christmas. Seeing as though December is a party month it seems quite a fitting theme. Having said that I am not going to be too stringent on it, as long as you can tie the theme of a party/Christmas someway then I am more than happy (I don't want to end up with 15 pictures of Christmas trees ;)).
Submission Date: Jan 3rd, I thought it would be better than having the submission date as December 31st since that's the biggest party of them all.
Editing Allowed: Only resizing and brightness/contrast changes. All entries to be 1024 x whatever. Whatever depending on the ratio your camera takes photo's in. Also portrait pics will be whatever x 1024.
Other Rules: Photo's must be taken after the date/time of this post. I know it's hard to police so we work on an honour system here. All entries must have a title. You can add a caption/info about picture as well and I will post it when I setup the voting poll(s) though it isn't required.
Entries to davidfill @ gmail.com, please use the subject "zgeek December Photo Comp" or something like that ;) I will reply to all entries via email, if you don't get a reply send me a PM here, just to make sure I got the picture.
All the best everyone, remember to have your camera with you at all parties you go to this festive season ;)
fixed up december 30th to 31st, not that it makes much different

If only everyone could submit pictures straight from their digital camera... obviously that's a little impossible, but as far as I know, don't digital camera's embed all that dodgey information about when a photo was taken and stuff??

Some do. I know mine does as well as a other bunch of info. Like apature speed and shit. Maybe if everyone sent me the original images and then I resize them. That was I can see if they confirm to the comp rules. Either way I am not too fussed.
Yeah, Most Cameras do save that information, however if you edit and re-save in Photoshop that info is just re-written. I could get a shot I took 2 years ago and make it look like it was taken yesterday.
So let's just hope people are nice :).
Time to get the ol' Camera out!
Submissions from me shall be on thier way soon.

If we see any happy new year 2003 photos I think we will know when they were taken without the cameras EXIF details ;)

I would like to commend you gentlemen on your 'Zgeekers supporting the arts' movement. Keep up the good work, and while I would like to help you out, I'm traveling at the moment and don't have a computer.

i just wish I had a digital camera. Yeah, I've got a film-based camera, but I can't be fucked taking the shots, finishing the film, scanning it in, making the necessary modifications, then uploading it...
It is a bit of a pain isnt it dogwomble.
You do have a month or so to get it done though ;)

I was thinking about this theme today in the car, it's going to be a pretty tough one. Looking forward to the challenge though.
a|A, we both joined zgeek at the same time ;)
lol ma77z ;)
That we did,
That we did...
We've seen many a postcount reset in our time.
StygiaN,
why are we sendin the pics thru at 1024 x whatever, only to have you resize them for posting on the zgeek board?
Why not just send them at the resized size in the first place?
He Resized them ?
I thought he just posted thumbnail links to the actual images.

I did resize some of the pictures, any pic that wasn't 1024 x whatever got the treatment. It would be better if everyone resized their picture themeselves, that way they are in chargeof the creative proccess.
I also made little thumbnails for each pic. As a|A said, click on the thumbnail, you get the full size picture. It seemed like the best way to do it. Couldn't think of a better way.
Sorry, my mistake. I didn't even realise they were thumbnails. I best go back and look at the full pics again... :)
You have done well, StygiaN to organise this - good effort.

Any chance voting for the December edition of the comp be made multiple choice?
StygiaN

I'd love to do that berserk but the voting options in vbulletin only allow for one vote polls or multiple vote threads, you can't set it up so a top three can be chosen or anything like that. I might hunt for a crack and then pester pirate into installing it.
I don't really like the idea of people sending me emails or PM with their votes. It's better to do it through the forums. Plus too much work for me ;)
If people were sensible I would be glad to tally email votes.
They'd have to stick to the correct subject cause I'd filter them into a folder, then tally the votes up in the end.
But I think the forums are doing fine.

Ok, there always has to be some person to cause problems, so let that person be me.
since i use film, i wont actually be able to drop the film in at the photolab til 4th jan, slide film normally takes 1 day to develop so assuming i took a picture on new years eve (which i think will be unlikly anyway), i couldn't submit it til 05 Jan.
Are there any others in my situation? Dont change the date on my account cause i dont think that i will actually be taking photo's on NYE but fellow film fanatic zgeekers should be aware of this....

im not happy because i barely remember what happens at christmas parties, and most of it id like to forget, let alone have pics of. then having to remember to carry around my camera, im going to sue everyone that chose this theme if i loose it.

Remember it doesn't have to be an entry taken at a christmas party. It just has to have something to do with christmas or to do with parties. Either one (or both). Should make it a little easier.
asdfjkl, I wish we could change the date but once it's set I am not to keen on making changes. Hope you get a digi-cam for christmas ;)
edit: replaced keep with keen, that's what I mean to write

Nah thats cool StygiaN, i wasn't going to be taking my camera with me to new years anyway. i dont think a photo of my drunk friends, esp the ones that always get naked for photo's, was going to win this competition :-)
I do have a digicam that i got just for taking to parties etc, but still prefer my film slr for other things.

If those friends happen to be a). female b). hot and c). engaged in saphic play, I'm sure you'd win.

Hey all
How's it going with this months comp? I've done my upmost best to try and find something to take a photo off and for it to be cool enough to enter in a comp but I can't come up with anything.
I haven't recieved any entries yet but that is understandable right now. There is still plenty of time!
All the best!
No Time !
I've been working almost every day.
I might try to work that into my photo.
Though I think it will be more likely to be a post Christmas Day Entry.
Nice and late-like.

Them be fighting words Lectroma! Tonight is going to be an awesome night to get pictures, I'm thinking a picture of two lesbians kissing tonight will win this one for me but yeah, got a backup just in case it doesn't.
I think next month the theme will be something a lot easier.
