Today I log on to ZGeek and I get a dialog box asking me to install and run this:

WMV-9 VCM RTW from Microsoft Corporation

Obviously, I clicked no (I'm at work, but I wouldn't do it at home either) and the front page didn't load up correctly and was extremely slow. I managed to get to the other threads by randomly clicking on the blankness.

Does anyone know about why this is happening or if it SHOULD be happening?

First guess would be something to do with this:

Can I ask what OS you are running?

I'm having the same problem. Running windows 2000.

Also, it crashes mozilla firefox.

edit: no problems at home on XP Pro SP2 w/internet explorer - however it also crashes firefox.

i downloaded the plugin for OSX (10.3.4) and installed it, but now each time i visit zgeek on the ibook it just closes the window. this happens using both internet explorer and safari.

Windows Media Player for mac doesn't like to play the embedded video, so it gives up and closes the Safari (or FireFox or whatever) window, then tries to play the video in WMP.

The problem with that is that WMP for mac sucks, and is either obnoxiously slow or doesn't load at all.

As for alternatives, I'm out of ideas, although when that sort of thing becomes a pain, the adblock plugin for FireFox works wonders :)

The page loads fine in FireFox on my XP SP1 computer.

OK. Until I get this fixed I wont have any videos posted with the media player on the front page.

Any non-Windows format should work fine on a mac, they'll just open up in the regular quicktime window.. AFAIK it's just the WMP plugin not working on windows media filetypes..

Metalhed00, make sure quicktime is the default media player for Safari (or FireFox, whatever..) and try going to a thread with a .mpg video embedded in it. If it loads fine using the quicktime plugin, it's a WMP problem, and that's simple to fix-- no .wma, .wmv or .asf files on the front page.

I'm at work and the browser is not that good. I can't (or won't download ) anything onto my hard drive. Its not doing it now, but I assume its because Pirate has no movies on the front page.
