Cooperative Linux is the first working free and open source method for optimally running Linux on Microsoft Windows natively. More generally, Cooperative Linux (short-named coLinux) is a port of the Linux kernel that allows it to run cooperatively alongside another operating system on a single machine. For instance, it allows one to freely run Linux on Windows 2000/XP, without using a commercial PC virtualization software such as VMware, in a way which is much more optimal than using any general purpose PC virtualization software.

Installed it last night.... but still has a few hours of config'in to do. will give ye' a good review when I got somewhere with it:)
But for right now, I am kinda not liking the items, this could have been made a little cleaner for distro. but I'll see what I can do with it.
wanting for using as a preconfig tool for 128 meg versions of linux routed and firewall utils to toss into a CF.

on second thought I might give it a miss - being Japanese Linux and all..

It can actually run numerous versions of linux. they just used the japanese knoppix due to it's small bootstrap. less strain.
can run deb and gentoo. but god what a clusterfuck of config's.
halfway getting it up.
furthermore..... after all the configurations, then you only have a small commandline style of linux, you have to apt-get all the packages you want. so it's a long process.

Tugzip is a POS. each time I extracted the deb file, I got 0 byte shit.
had to actually take the bz2 file, move it to my mac laptop and decompress it there. then reupload it to the windows machine. that and the fake swap file. had to suffice with the 1024Mb one, don't recall seeing a 1.5gb swap. oh well.
got command working, need the networking next. after networking, tons of apt-get's of X and whatnot. big fucking mess of shit. needs more documentation.
colinux is a good idea, thought the resource usage is a leap compared to vmware, but real world applications is somewhat useless. most use linux for a firewall, or webserver, since it's being used inside of windows, it's not really able to do that. but hey...... good practice run for a beginner. learning to start a linux OS with the slim deal.

got pissed...... deleted it.

::edit::
There's some confusion here...... The coLinux program is messy, not Linux stand alone. The internetworking of two OS's and one machine was the big piss off. one NIC, Interface for windows, a bridge to a fake interface, then another interface inside Debian pointing to the fake bridge. Just too much pain for a small 1gb command line use.

after seeing cygwin xfree86 in the screen shot i knew it couldnt be too good..
personally i think linux + crossover office and winex offer a decent solution of linux and windows on the desktop. and as time goes by crossover office will improve..
