John Kelly/Clarke from Tom Clancy's Without Remorse/Rainbow Six/a few of this other books I haven't read.

Without Remorse is one of the best books on getting revenge I have ever seen. And Kelly is a fucking demon. I aspire to be like him and that makes him my favourite fictional character.

ps. I should really read some of that discworld shit. All geeks talk about it, I guess I am not one until I do. ;)

God.

No way is God the "best" charater.
Its a poorly developed character with major inconsistencies. E.g. is God 1 & 3, God knows everything & is intemporal but humans have free will, God is merciful but is a punisher.

Call you guys tell us where your choice comes from and why? It'd be nice to read the books you guys like so much, or at least find out more about the character.

Tough choice, my first shot:
Dracula, from Dracula.
First modern vampire, inspired so much cool (and shitty) mythology and fiction.

ShinymetalASS

The reason for Discworld's Death being my favourite....
I find the irony of death's character utterly hilarious AND
He chose a guy called Mort for his apprentice.

Done and done.

And while i'm around this thread I'll have to throw in a bit of Legolas form LOTR...
HOWEVER....
pre-movie, book only, Legolas as a character in the book....

Victor Mancini from Choke by Chuck Palahniuk. Victor is a medical school drop out that works in one of those 1834 style theme parks, like old Sydney town. He also happens to be a sex addict and believes he may be a direct descendant of Jesus.

I liked the character for his activities such as, cruising sex addict support groups in an attempt to get laid, pretending to choke on food at restaurants so people will give him money and attention.

Tony Soprano from The Sopranos

Same type of reasons mainly due to their character flaws and how they deal with them.

I don't wont to be either of them nor but they would definitely be the two characters have enjoyed the most.

Who :Edmund Blackadder
From :Blackadders ( TV Series )
Why :Perfectly ruthless and calculating but never seems to get anywhere.

hmm other favorites are
The Major - Ghost in the Shell ( TV and movie ) - Because she is just so calm and collected under pressure.

Fras Glasken - Souls in the Great Machine series ( books -Australian SciFi ) - Because he is a complete lecher through and through, yet he still manages to be one of the most amazingly driven person. IE he saves the world a few times and ends up giving up so much in doing so.

Don't worry, I'm sure if you ever had children, an alarm would go off in Social Services HQ and a crack team of SS agents would descend upon the child, snatching it away and spiriting it off to a government institution, where it would be ensured a substandard upbringing and a criminal career path

Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool.

Best comic book character in history, depending on who was writing at the time, but the first several issues of the monthly series that started in '96/'97 was worth twice as much as it cost in humour/kg alone.
Let me refer to the issue in which he had to extract a sample of blood from the Hulk, as he dynamically parachuted out of a plane he yelled
'TIME TO MAKE DONUTS!!!!!!!!... you were expecting I might have said "Spoon"?'

Other reasons include; He's Canadian. He has Wolverine's healing factor. Did I mention he's funny? (Might have something to do with the fact he has terminal cancer but can't die because of the pesky healing factor). He runs with sharp objects.

Is it my (constantly) failing memory or did Ursula Le Guin have a Sparrowhawk char in her series? I think he later turned into Ged (his true name). He was a bit of a tosser..... if memory serves.. haha!!

Plus, having just finished David Drake's Lord of the Isles I'm going to add Cashel from that book. What a sexy bastard.

The Space Marine from Doom. Keeps his trap shut and lets his guns do the talking, still able to fight after injuries that would've felled a lesser man.

Duke Nukem and Lo Wang come close, but they really weren't as hard arse as the Doom Marine. They both had kickarse one liners, though. Lo Wang edging out Duke Nukem in that department

Quake guy was a faggot.

The dude from Blood was alright but still has nothing on Doom guy

Master Chief is a fucking faggot

Serious Sam rates #2. Only because Doom was the original and the best and no matter what anyone says, the BFG 9000 was far meatier than that stupid cannon

Hmmm, if you mean best by favourite, then:

I love Rhodry too. But only in the beginning. When he's all bitter in the Westlands Cycle and getting it on with Dallandra in The Dragon Mage I kind of lost interest and switched my attentions to Ebany. I think the love affair Rhodry had with Jill was part of the appeal *sigh*

I also have a soft spot for all powerful mighty sorcerors - Nevyn and Belgarath are the coolest.

But lately, I find myself being drawn to a certain Discworld character. Drawn quite strongly, in fact. Is it wrong to identify so well with a homicidal, brainless suitcase on legs?

Long live the Luggage!!!

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Marvin from Hitchhiker's Guide yet. He would have to be my number one, simply because he has some of the best lines ever written. For example:

"You think you've got problems, what are you supposed to do if you're a manically depressed robot? No, don't bother to answer that, I'm fifty thousand times more intelligent than you and even I don't know the answer. It gives me a headache just trying to think down to your level."
