Hey Guys.
Theme:Whatever you want. I know in the poll earlier most people voted for the motion idea but I think we need to get our entrant numbers up again before we try a theme. So, this is it. Take a photo of whatever you want. Submit it and see if you win :)
Submission Date: Jan 31st. On Feb 1st I will put up the vote thread.
Editing Allowed: Resizing of the image to 1024 x whatever (portrait pics to be whatever x 1024). Lets make it a bit different this month. Images are allowed to be cropped and colour/bightness changes are also allowed.
Other Rules: Photo's must be taken after the date/time of this post. I know it's hard to police so we work on an honour system here. All entries must have a title.
Entries to davidfill @ gmail.com, please use the subject "zgeek January Photo Comp" or something like that ;) I will reply to all entries via email, if you don't get a reply send me a PM here, just to make sure I got the picture.
So I guess that's it. Any questions/comments/whatever. Ask away.
Happy shooting.

Im not trying to be difficult but I took a photo yesterday that I am very proud of, it was taken in January so why shouldn't it be valid for the January photo comp?

Also, StygiaN, I agree about Levels, Cropping, Contrast etc.
Sorry for not entering!
I had to format my computer, and so - lost photoshop, and all camera settings. So I'll try to get an entry in for this next competition.

I would have entered Decembers but I didn't feel that any of my shots were "party" enough. According to those rules there is only one photo in the current comp that can win.
It was also anything to do with the holiday as well, but I like the free range of this one. Although specific goals are fun to shoot for, sometimes I just can't come out with a picture I like under a certain genre and take one that I feel is really good in another in that month, it depresses me. :D
I'm happy with this one.

can i say take 4 photos of an image but slightly rotated and then photoshop them together with no editing other than rezising them and submit it as a really wide landscape image? I think that would be intresting.
Great!
I'll be heading off to the zoo sometime this month, hopefully will come out with some good shots by the end of the day to enter in the comp.

Sorry tk-421. A rule is a rule and they can only be broken in the movies (see grease lightning). Will have a think about something for next comp though mate. Still learning the game here!
Already one entry has been submitted. I am a big fan of the no theme. It makes it a lot easier for entries. Especially since there really isn't that much of us here taking photo's for fun. November was well cool, I can't wait to see what is entered this month.
I took a sweet photo today while on my travels and I want to show you all but I want to save it just incase it's going to be my entry.

Samsung v3 with a waterproof housing. Still learning though, its very difficult to get motion shots in the surf to turn out good.

Great shot mate. Would have been a lot cooler if it was a nice day but that's not really something you can control :(
How does the waterproof housing work? Sounds interesting.
Usually it's just a waterproof case that snaps around your cam that allows access to the shutter button through a little rubber switch type thing. At least from what I've seen that's the extent it goes for me. I've seen two variations, a bag variation (cheaper type) with a clear area for the lens and a hard plastic box like contraption that snaps and seals shut around the camera.

Mine is a clear hard case that has access to every button as it is an action housing, used for snow, diving and extreme conditions, eg kayaking, caving etc. Its not a surf specific housing, but when I get a decent camera I want to get a real surf housing.

Sounds cool.
I'm in if I have time to go shooting before entry deadline.
Pretty sure it's no editing.
Though I have a question
does it HAVE to be 1024 by something ?
Because that's smelly.
I've got a great shot that's about 300 by 680.
Tis all in the proportions my friends!

sounds good..
i need to take some photos to submit...
good ol snow is a great addition to landscapes...
I have 2 photos that are very similar.. but I can't choose what one to enter in the competition! I have been switching from photo to photo for 20mins trying to see what one is better and I still can't choose, even asking other people and it's a 50/50 between them.
Arghh!
I think I'll close my eyes and randomly attach a file and send it..
