I used to ride a fair bit, but for the past couple of years haven't done much at all. Well, since November last year I've been riding quite a bit, and recently ditched my 5 year old GT Tequesta for a brand spanking new Kona Blast. I usually ride up Mt Coot-tha and go down the tracks up there, but occasionally go out to Gap Creek. Bunya is on the cards for tomorrow
Anyways, here's a piccy of the new bike. Gonna upgrade the pedals and the tires ASAP. Anyone else ride around here?

It's in Brisbane, it's the one with all the TV towers on it. There are quite a few tracks near the top, especially next to Channel 9. There's one called the "Powerful Owl" trail, that's got like 3 massive downhill sections with waterbars (read "jumps") all the way through. Coming off this one there are a few single track technical trails which are a bit of fun. On the other side there are a few as well, but I've yet to try them because they end up on the other side of Brisbane, very far away from my house, and the roads that lead back up.

I've been fortunate enough do some cross country biking in Spain. The terrain there is fantastic, the ground in most parts is of a gravel consistency, not unlike limestone. Which is good for keeping up momentum and keeps you on your toes as the bike tends to slide around underneath you quite a lot.
I find m/biking in Perth WA to be a little difficult with the cross country tracks seem to be very 'boggy' and keeping going can be a right royal pain. As I am weak, weak like the rabid turtle!!
If anyone is in Perth WA and fancy's a jaunt up to Mundaring etc, let me know.
I've had my mtb for a bit over a year now (Trek Bruiser two,) haven't ridden much up here (Gold Coast), but I’ve ridden a fair bit in Newcastle (mainly Glenrock.)
I have to do some more homework in regards to trails around here, I've only ridden a the six pack featured in this film (http://www.eengoedidee.nl/videoz/mountainbike/mtb.wmv) and I know of another track behind Griffith which I planned on checking out tomorrow, I've looked around Nerang also but never really found the goods...
I'm heaps keen to catch up for some trail smashing if your keen, I'm around on msn a fair bit, add me asphen@hotmail.com if you like.

Nice - the Trek has pretty similar specs to mine. What do you think of the MZ Comp's? I used to have Rockshox Indy's on my GT, and sure the MZ's have more travel, but they feel a pretty bouncy. They'll sustain an impact fairly well, but really fark up your line when they bounce back. Good enough though, I can't really complain.
A friend of mine has done a bit of riding down the coast, I'll ask him about the trails down there. In fact I'm heading down there with him and a few other guys tomorrow night for summafieldayze on the weekend. We were thinking about bringing the bikes on his rack, but going for a ride the day after summafieldayze probably isn't the best idea :weed:

I bought a MTB and got into a bit around my local area (Terrey Hills) but have gotten bored with it. Then I lost my helmet :(

I wouldn't have a clue about your forks, never used them or come into contact with them, aren’t good forks supposed to rebound fast? :) I aren’t into the mechanics etcetera of bikes (note: my bike runs like a dog atm,) I really should do something about it, it still rolls down hills which is all that matters though.
That would be good if you could ask your friend. I know Nerang has some good trails... god knows where though. I checked out Blacksnots (near Griffith) the other day, some good dj's, but the single trails bored me, too flat... I hear Tamborine has some killer downhill trails though, might check it out tomorrow.
StygiaN, yeah, it can get boring, it's generally a good idea to have some riding buddies who are equally or more motivated to ride than you, helps allot. As well as finding good places to ride that you thoroughly enjoy. And don't forget to get the adrenaline running, push it a bit harder every session, keeps it interesting and fresh.
Oh and have a good day down at the spit today.

Heh, it's a killer isn't it? Went riding with a new guy the other day - he had a yak :D. It doesn't take long to get used to it - after a week you'll wonder why you felt so bad the first time round, keep at it mate!

Sorry man, I forgot to ask him last time. I'll be seeing him today, so I'll ask him then and post tonight. Tamborine sounds cool, did you end up checking it out?

I need a little practice before riding to work again. I live at the bottom of a steep hill. Work is a few kms over the other side. So going to work is really all up hill for me.
pliskin I just did a google and these are some of the links it came up with.

No probs. Had a smash out at Tambo, was allright, DH single trail which ran for approx 2km's with some berms and jumps, it was a bit rocky for the old hard tail though, and it starts and ends at a road, so your better off doing shuttle runs because walking back up is an absolute bitch. It's the kinda place you want dual suspension, full face helmet, and body armour just so you can push it extra hard and absord all those mean rocks!
For those looking for trails in Sydney region, www.mtbr.com has some allright trail reviews.
Wish I was still in Newcastle, would be all over Glenrock this arvy.... *cries*

Here ya go:
Eric sez: "Tell your mate that if he goes into the Nerang MTB centre they have
maps there of nerang state forest which is huge and supposedly
awesome, mark or kylie will be there and they're pretty friendly as
well so I'm sure if he asks he'll get some local knowledge as well.
Also if he wants some info before he heads down give him this link:
http://www.mtbdirt.com.au/modules.php?name=Sections&op=listarticles&secid=3
Its a general overview of the gold coast area but wont go into as much
specifics as the map from nerang MTBC. Covers a bigger area though..."
I'd rep++ him if I could, but alas this is from an email. Hope it helps out - looks like some pretty sweet trails in Nerang judging from the pics on mtbdirt.
Tambourine sounds pretty good, but yeah, shuttle runs would be the go. Mt Coot-tha's good cause it only takes about 30-40 mins to ride up and the single tracks are pretty long. If you're feeling healthy you can ride up and do a different track. I take it Tambourine would be quite a hike to get back to the tracks though - that's when bike racks come in handy :D (or a phat ute). We're heading out to Daisy Hill tomorrow morning to check out the trails around there, should be alright...
Thanks for the info Afro.
I rode Daisy Hill a while back, pretty fun, nothing too exhilarating.
Here's a short video (http://www.eengoedidee.nl/videoz/mountainbike/goldylox2.wmv) made by some GC mtbers, it's an entertaining little watch, some solid riding.

Yeah that's a cool little video. There's some pretty nice jumps in there hey. Pretty decent riders too. The guys I ride with are more into cross country/single tracks than dirt jumping - put me near most of those jumps and I'll just stack it .
There's a track on coot-tha that's pretty much all just like that rocky section near the end of the video. That can make for some interesting riding. We gunned it last time and had a few over the handle bar experiences, heh. A friend of ours only got his bike yesterday, so tomorrow's ride should be interesting :D

Hahaha, poor girl. Lucky not to have broken her colar bone or something. As you say - good on her for giving it a crack. I don't know too many girls that would try doing any jumps like that!
Went out to Bunya for a ride on some fire trails out to Bellbird early this morning. When we get there, Jimi looks at his bike and his front brake is completely fucked. Somehow the tightener screw bit at the end of the brake lever snapped off. God knows how that happened. His rear brakes got messed up last week too, so his bike was pretty much unrideable. We ended up having to turn around and go home. Talk about an anti climax. The trail looked pretty nice too - nothing too tricky, but nice and speedy (at least the beginning looked this way anyway).

Meh... I MTB when I can... No real urge lately, even with a $$ value of bikes that could buy a decent car.
Possible new MTB park (http://www.mtbdirt.com.au/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7604) in Beenleigh. Hope it get's off the ground. Attached is a picture of one of the trails.
