Yet another college football season comes to a close, with almost all the football pundits left scratching their punds.... "Both teams strong, but OU will win in a close one" said they....
The same "geniuses" 24 hours later:
"USC Dynasty has begun"
Why oh why do I even bother to watch Sportscenter???

actually, the "dynasty" discussion began a few weeks ago. USC is so good it is really scary. this excellent article (http://www.footballoutsiders.com/ramblings.php?p=2218&cat=6) on the unmatched football geek website football outsiders (http://www.footballoutsiders.com/index.php) really breaks down exactly why the rest of the bcs should be shit scared of usc next year and the next two years after that.
basically, pete carroll is a proven coach and his program is clean enough not to worry about ncaa penalties anytime soon. then you add in that there are only four seniors on this team. even if leinart decides to go to the nfl they still have some of the best backups in the country as well.
add to this the clout two national titles (one shared, i know) gives you on the recruiting trail and the road looks rather long indeed.
the other big factor is the pac 10. exactly who the hell is there for them to play against there? while i loath auburn more than i loath the thrice damned yankees, it takes a hell of a lot more to come out of the SEC with an unbeaten record - not even counting the "playoff" that conference has now -than the left coast group of underachievers.

I don't disagree with the observation that USC football, absent some disaster, is now in what should be a dynasty-type run...
But my comment is more a reflection on the incredible fickleness of sports "pundits". I attended the game. On the way, we of course were stuck in traffic, listening to the various ESPN radio interviews and commentators. All but Corso said OU would win a close one.
Did you notice in the post game shows ANY mention of people being surprised or at their predictions being wrong? Of course not.
Go USC Dynasty! Can't wait for spring practice... heck, can't wait for the recruiting announcements.

USC is freakin' awesome. That score could easily have been even more lop-sided.
OU is and has been over-rated for at least two years. Twice in a row their true level of strength has been exposed.
And they lose 15 starters, not counting special teams, now.

agreed about sportscenter. watch the first twenty minutes then turn it off. it turns into a slew of commercials and sponsored segments more stupid than can be believed.
and the announcers and analyists were terrible. i almost threw something at the screen before the game when lee corso said it was going to be "one of the greatest games in the history of college football."
jesus people. get a fucking grip.

I agree, I think Auburn had it a lot tougher to stay unbeaten than both USC and OU. I'm and SEC fan and I believer Auburn should have been given a chance, heck i'm sure if they would have lost it would have a hell of a lot closer than OU...
Also I'm a Razorback fan/student and we play USC for our third game, in LA, and we'll have a pretty inexperienced team, and we probably lost our most valuable player in our quaterback... Maybe I should try out for the team... hahaha

No disrespect, but USC played Auburn at the beginning of the '03 season and handled them pretty well. Auburn is no question a good team, heck a great team, but nobody would have fared much better on January 4. USC had all the stars lined up in the sky right, and was finally really up for a game this year.
Unfortunately, the "pundits" say Ohio State and Texas, not Auburn, will be the contenders with SC.
Thoughts? :D

actually, i think texas is a pretty good bet. auburn has been very flaky despite their overwhelming talent and there is still georgia, tennessee and the rest of the sec to overcome.

OK, Kleph, it is settled.
USC v. Texas, January 4 2006 in Rose Bowl. Spread is 21, Horns are the 'dog. USC will kill the spread. At least 65 total points scored.
Leinart is beaten out for consecutive Heisman by Reggie Bush.

Auburn was my fav for the season, but USC made OU look overrated like LSU did the year before. I think the big12 has been overrated recently and is declining. Also, USC shall be fun to watch the next season...see if they live up to the hype again.

Shutter, frankly much of the USC season in '05 is going to be fairly boring. Fearless prediction - average margin of victory -- 28 points

Maybe, I expect a couple close ones. There are always suprises and I hope to be watching when it happens.

Again, my hogs play the trojans, and I, like much of the rest of Razorback nation, hopes that we can pull an upset in LA like we did in Texas a couple years ago. And looking at the USC schedule for the coming season, it looks like the hogs might be the toughest team the trojans play, with norte dame and possibly cal being the only teams that might just be a little tougher than the hogs. I seriously hope that if there is an undefeated SEC team this season that they get the first place because with a schedule like USC's it's not that hard to be undefeated.

now every nfl team will look and observe exactly what the eagles did that that sunday afternoon. is vick in trouble? somebody did mention that nfl teams will sooner or later figure out a way to stop vick. if vick can't run vick is a nobody. vick the next randall cunningham? next kordell stewart?

Thanks Kleph, we don't want to lose our amateur status on this thread.
And for those of us who have freakin' nothing else to talk about between the long dark spell between the Orange Bowl and the onset of spring practice....
After several weeks of careful consideration, analysis, and consultation with Ouija boards, I am ready to adjust my prediction for the USC 2005 season. After the departure of almost all our main coaches other than Carroll, I now am ready to drop my prediction that USC will win all its games by an average margin of 24 points.
Now, it's only going to be 17.

Leinart's staying put. Everybody can't resist the rumor generation mill on this. BUT the new quarterback coach, Sarkisian, is the same one who worked with Leinart in 2003 (Sarkisian took another job for a year and is now back).
Leinart has his whole same offensive line back, the same receivers, the same backfield... hmm.
And he just had elbow surgery (his dirty little secret this year was that he struggled with tendinitis all year long, something that had to have downgraded his draftability).
So his decision to stay in school really wasn't as hard as he made it out to be. I think he was really enjoying the attention.
He'll miss spring practice in March/April, so we'll get to see Rocky Hinds and John David Booty duel it out. My money is on Booty.
I am stoked, already renewed my tickets, and I'll talk TRASH anywhere any time 'bout my Trojans.
(I know this won't last, so I am enjoying this ride all I can!)

Guess it's unanimous. Every freakin sports magazine, internet or in "hard" copy, and 60 of the 62 college UPI voting coaches place USC as number one...
Of course I hold a rather big grudge against those UPI voters.... remembering a screw job against Cal last year and a rather notable screw job in the Suger Bowl the previous.....
Still going with Texas as #2.
I give Arkansas props for playing this year and next, but all respect to the Hawgs, it's not going to be a contest.
the_mexican_one
28-09-2005, 04:14 AM
hey you were right about it not being a contest, but i was definitely not expecting one after such a humiliating loss to vanderbilt, of all teams..., but yeah a 70-17 loss to the Trojans is really shameful for us in the "Hog nation"
any how at least our rushing attack was the best the Trojans have seen in a while, a bright spot amongst what is probably our worst team in over a decade.
But yeah, after that game I realized the greatness of Carroll's offense, I mean WOW is the only thing I can say.

All right already. I really screwed up. I predicted average margin of victory would be 17 points. I am off by at least 5... too low.
However, average will shoot up a tad this Saturday, at the expense of the unfortunate Wildcats...

All HAIL KLEPH AND I (WITH ALL FALSE MODESTY, OF COURSE)
The season she be over, m'laddies, and per our prediction it is USC v. Texas in a li'l football game in Pasadena in two weeks.... SC is only 6-7 point favorite, so bet the house, the kids and the neighborhood on the Trojans to cover.
Want to vomit? Check out the ticket prices on ebay......
I'll be there, of course, to see college football history made....
p.s. Thank you San Diego Chargers for ending Indy's streak so everyone can focus on the real big story... a 3 Pete.....

What a freakin' game.... Clash of the Titans... and my beloved Trojans feel the bitter taste of defeat... can't say much more than that right now, still buried in the thoughts of "what if...?".
Well, we'll see you all in the Fiesta Bowl, as USC is in its third straight BCS Championship on Jan 4, 2007.
Oh yes, boys and girls, you heard it here first.....

all right klephster, it is true Bama grabbed a lineman we really wanted... but check out Scout.com or Rivals.com and see where USC finished up in THIS year's recruiting wars.....
Bama'll be good, but I don't think they'll be on the other side in Fiesta Bowl.. my money's on Ohio State to return.
