Well we've just crawled into the 2nd week of 2005 and I've already come across some really retarded comments by people in the public eye already.

I'll kick this thread off with this gem I found in this morning's Sauce section of the Saturday Sydney Morning Herald:

"Why should the US spend money to rebuild the area just so that the Swedes and the Danes would have a place to go on vacation."

The Australian interviewing some *uber-smart* Australians if $10 million the government announced for tsunami disaster relief was adequate. The response of 3 "Yeah, its adequate", "I think it's about right" etc

That same day the government quadrupled its funding, promising much more. Germany days later donated $900 million.
