I've got a fair bit of time on my hands in the next couple of weeks ( sick leave from work )and entertainment purposes Ive got cable/dvd's, but I love to read.
Sadly tho Ive pretty much finished my current reads, give or take a few pages.
So Im looking for some new stuff :)
I love horror ( James Herbert is a favourite ), fantasy ( am almost finished with The Redemption of Althalus, and I like R.A.Salvatore stuff ) and the more classic books ( just finished Crime and Punishment ).
Sooooo, suggestions of any really really good books you can think of ?

Fantasy: View from the Mirror quartet by Ian Irvine.
Classic: 1984.
Sci-Fi: City of Pearl/Crossing the Line by Karen Traviss.
New suggestion: the Discworld books. Fantasy unlike any other I've ever read, and an absolute crackup.

Concur with Mirror quartet and any Discworld book, though a personal favourite is Mort, oh, and theif of time. Some of them really satirise physics, etc, which I think is freakin sweet. Nothin like taking the piss out of science.
Other than that... have you tried Poppy Z Brite's stuff? She's cool.
I can recommend a shiteload of fantasy, but I aint so good with the horror. the world war series by harry turtledove. (aliens vs ww2)
the pern series by ann mcaffery (space, dragons, thread)
the charlie muffin series by brien freemantle (james bond mixed with werzel gumage)
any terry pratchet book, guards guards, men at arms, interesting times (take causality and replace it with narative imperitive) (eg. kids believe in the tooth fairy but its actually your mum (spoiler sorry), in discworld there really is a fairy that takes your teeth away, the fairy lives in gum lane where they make false teeth).
want more? if so i'll go and write down the contents of my bookshelves, 500+ books take a while though.

Thanks for the input :)
Ive got some Discworld, and still some unread ones, so I will get cracking on those.
Got some of the suggested titles on order, so that should keep me off the streets for a while :)

The Briar King
and
The Charnel Prince
By Greg Keyes. Both lengthy and decent reads.
