It seems that the only versions of OpenOffice on the Mac will be X11 based only due to any lack of development in this area.
As it stands OO for Mac is a number of versions behind anyway so it's highly unlikely that OO is going to be the Microsoft beater that we have been looking for.
I bet it's going to be a million years before we see OO2 for Mac.

Anyone wanting a semi-native version of OpenOffice for the Mac I recommend using NeoOffice/J (http://www.neooffice.org). It runs using Java and despite load times it is reasonably quick once running.
Also keep an eye out for Apple's iWork (http://www.apple.com/iwork) because it could be promising, although it does lack a spreadsheet (maybe in the future???).
