View Full Version : Wanted: Training partner/group
I've been training in Martial Arts (Hap-Ki-Do, Ninjutsu and a little bit of Karate and Taekwondo) for the past 5 years, and now that my training partner has moved to Adelaide, so that means I'm out of a training partner for now. I quit Hap-Ki-Do 3 months ago because the sensei is a fuckhead (die hard "I love Bush" american instructor , but other than that, general fuckhead in general. Arrogant as hell and thinks he is invulnerable, wont even acknowledge human weakness either, which really isn't a good quality in a sensei I look for...), so I started doing Ninjutsu, and then the sensei has gone to Japan for training/holidays. Which means I was out of the the class training scene, and into the gym training scene. Now that my partner has gone, I'm starting back into classes, and a new self defence system.
Krav Maga (http://www.sdtactics.com.au/html/systems/krav_maga.html) ('Contact Combat') is an effective, modern day, easy to learn, self defence system for men and women. It is not a sport or martial art. They teach people reality based techniques and strategies to avoid or deal with violent confrontations. Originally developed in Israel, Krav Maga has been specifically developed to bring people to a highly efficient level of self-defense in the shortest possible time.
Basically I'd like to start a group to do this :D. If even a small group cant form, a training partner would be good :).
In Sydney, they currently teach this at 2 places that I'd goto. In the City (Darlington Golden Grove Road), and at Penrith (Ultimate Fighting Arts Centre Mulgoa Rd). Information on the training centers can be located here (http://www.tacticalkravmaga.com.au/).
Well that's about it really, if no one wants to do this, Cycling or Jogging is still good for me :D.

So it's like jap slapping?
If you can pick me up and drop me off before the street lights come on, I'll do it.

I'm wanted to learn the cool version of Krav Maga, but unfortunately I don't have the body to back up an application into the special forces :(

I do Aikido, which is very similar to Hapkido... I think the Korean Hapkido is based on the Jap Aikido but could be wrong. Anyway.. I train in Camperdown and Bondi Junction dojos and welcome you and anyone else interested to come check it out one day if you're in the area. I love it.
Aikido is about technique and not strength, so women and physically less powerful people are well suited to this.
I've been meaning to check out Krav for ages. Looks like fun.

yeah, krav maga looks cool, unfortunately, last i looked, its rather rare in teh states here. tho you cant seem to throw a rock without hitting a tae-kwon-do (pronounced take-your-dough) studio.
I should look for some training partners again at some point as well. I've been in and out of studios for the past 15 years with a mixture of TKD, hapkido, jujitsu, akido, arnis, and an okinowan style I cant remember the name of. was all pressure points. if anyone knows, let me know. the name might jog my memory.

I've been meaning to check out Krav for ages. Looks like fun.I did Aikido for about 4 months in the City and I was really enjoying it, but the classes start at 18:00 sharp and I'm never able to get there by that time because of work, so I was pretty much flushing good money down the toilet...what time do your classes go from??...
You pansies, get in the ring :D

Me too, but it's the same as the army entry requirements. If you're generally fit, you get trained in special forces, but being above average in fitness level's gives you a greater chance.
This is the good Krav Maga system in Australia by the sounds of it, so I'm definately going to start doing it.

Arnis is good! It's amazing how many things can you can use instead of the 2 sticks. But there are no Arnis places locally in Australia :(...

Was this in Surry Hills? If it was, then that was part of the same association and same style as what I'm learning. I'm doing Takemusu style (similar but different to Iwama style) which is a moderately hard style. (But we're all lovers rather than fighters)
Classes at Camperdown are:
Monday 6-7.30pm
Wednesday 8 - 9.30pm
Friday 6 - 7.30pmish but we kick on to late if anyone is interested.
Bondi Junction is:
Tuesday 7 - 8.30
Thursday 7- 8.30
Sat & Sun 8am - 9am (weapons)
or PM me for details.. :D

You're kidding Kez? I've been training in Arnis for around 10 years now from memory (some time off though in parts). Roland Dantes is based in Australia, there's some basic information here:

Yeah.. our association has a dojo at Nth Sydney PCYC which has some excellent instructors.
Check out our assocation website (http://www.aikidoaus.com.au/dojo/index.htm) for more info on dojos and training times.
I train at the Camperdown dojo close to the CBD which has a pretty relaxed atmosphere. Training is fun and not regimented by strict protocols and traditions although there is a basic etiquette to follow. You'd be more than welcome to train as my guest.

hmmm Krav Maga sounds good, but both locations are pretty far for me to travel to.
I think i shall go back to Karate again... haven't been for a few years now, but I really enjoyed it.
but still.... if that krav maga is held on weekends at penrith and it's charged at a reasonable price, then I'll go :)

I cant go either :spingo:! Have to be over 18, but it's charged at $150 for joining fee, which is the first 10 lessons and level 1 grade, and $500 afterwards for 6 months, including level fee's
