I got stuff in 2003 because I told DumHed's mum that he didn't get me anything and she guilted him into it. I think it was chocolate.

I used to be big on giving presents, but two things happened to change that.
I've been single at Valentine's Day for a few years now, and the last girlfriend I was with at Valentine's Day received $100 worth of red roses delivered to her work. First thing she said to me that night was "Oh, they'll be dead in a week."
Nice, real nice.

I'm more into actions rather than gifts now.

It's all good. She forceably embraced singlehood not long after that.

lol - any kind of venereal desease ensures that she has a constant reminder of you close to her....

I think anything that is a suprise works well....
Nothing worse than telling someone what you're going to do before you do it...
That kills half the anticipation....

Last year I wrote this and sent it to my friends. I thought it was a great idea until everyone started to sent me photos of flowers……….. …

Dear people that love me,
As Valentines day is nearly here i thought i would remind you all that it is a day to show your love. Sure you should show your love to your partners, however you should also take some time for the single people that have loved and supported you i.e (ME!!)

I have decided that this hallmark holiday will not make me depressed about my current lack of a partner and that my terminal single status should not stop me receiving the dozen roses I deserve. If every one of you gives me one or two rose then i will have a dozen in no time. I understand that florists jack up the prices of roses around this time and recommend origami roses made from currency as an attractive alternative. While pink and blue roses are nice, being Australian green and gold will move my heart.
Below are some useful links.

Love you all long time
Jo

i have never really been *with* someone on the day. its a sad state of affair when i am either single or out of the country. oh well :p

i must say it is usually better for action, than presents, though presents are nice, and i LOVE Chocs idea - mucho laugh!

first of all, some girls like mooshy/romantic stuff (i know i do :p, that's why some of my ideas are like that). I think if you make your partner feel special and loved , that's all that matters :) that's what Valentine's day is about.

in the past i have always given small gifts and written a nice card or letter. it is more personal that way, and you can really tell your partner what you love about them and about your relationship. a letter is something they can keep forever and can read whenever they like.

going out for dinner somewhere special is nice too (especially somewhere your partner has never been to, or their favourite restaurant, or even somewhere which means something to you both eg. the place you went on your first date) Picnics are also good - and you can surprise them with the location too. Even cooking dinner at home is an idea (make their favourite meal or something).

also, it's good to have some quiet time together. if you don't live together, go for a walk or drive to a quiet location, or you could even organise a hotel for the evening :) that way it's more private for you both and you can spend quality time together.

while that's good and well Rin, what valentines day is all about is companies making more money.

I don't think anyone should need a day set on a calendar to know when to make their partner feel special, they should always make em feel special :P

Having said that, when the hell is valentines day?

well yes, companies would make more money on this day...

and yes, i also agree that we shouldn't need a day to know when to make someone feel special. But i guess it's like a birthday, you give that person just a bit more attention than you normally would :D if that makes sense...

and St Valentine's Day is February 14 Merudo :)

It may be a very commercial holiday but they all are. There's no fighting it... companies are out to make money and they'll also use holidays as an excuse to boost sales and prices. It's just what happens and I try not to let it bother me.

As for the it being like a birthday,I agree with you there. It's once a year and it's special. I treat my boy like a prince everyday but St Valentines day gives me an excuse to go a bit nuts with the "OMG I Love You" business :) This makes me happy too b/c I love to spoil and suprise ppl.

FYI single chicks tend not to go out to bars on valentines day. Well this one doesn’t. When do you ever want to see couples showing way to much public affection for each other?…...
I will be throwing rocks at people having picnics, actually I will be traveling back to Sydney so chances are I will probably forget ….

I've never been with anyone on Valentines Day. So I have never done anything on Valentines Day. Therefore, no ideas here

Seems to be the norm on ZGeek. Hell, seems to be a competition on ZGeek as to who can show the most!

not going to do much this year as we are broke - and we never need an excuse to spend quality time together, so valentines wont be any different.

Pink iPod Mini went down well. Also she didnt get it until 8 o'clock cos I had to work late and from a different site, and then go into town to get some stuff for dinner, so she thought I'd made no effort.
