just out of interest, do you get culture clashes? i just came out of a relationship with a white girl (2 years) and beforehand i never really thought there was much difference between cultures (or that they didnt matter). but now, i realise that theres a whole world of difference between an individualistic culture and a collective culture...

Umm, sort of. I am half Indian and half white but we don't have any contact with the white side of the family at all (I know that I have aunts and uncles and cousins but I've never met them and don't even know their names) so my Indian relatives are my only family. There are religious clashes within my family, in that half the family are Muslim and half are not religious, so there are some wildly differing opinions on what is and isn't done. Some of my cousins have had arranged marriages but my parents always encouraged me to be independent and would be horrified if I had one, but some of my relatives don't really approve of that.

In terms of dating people who arent Indian, I've never really had many problems with my family, except for with small things, like a lot of the guys I've dated haven't liked Indian food and things like that. Also, my family can be quite traditional in a lot of ways and some guys don't understand that - for example, they would be horrified if I moved in with someone without marrying them. I find that you have to find a balance between what you want from a relationship and what your family expects.
