I'm going to be starting a proper site soon. Up to now I've only worked with the freebie - geocities type sites.

So I'm asking for the combined wisdom of the Zgeek crowd.

Which is the best domain seller / hosting place you've dealt with.
I'd like to support Aussie built stuff if possible.

1337.as hosting. There used to be some banner ads around the site, not sure whats going on with them now but if you just go to http://1337.as/ you can't go wrong.

1337.as has very strong ties with zgeek and they are the ones that keep it running when the pictures of schoolgirls threaten to kill the site.

but, i also would like to reccomend them from my personal experience. i have used them for my site for two years and i got nothing but good things to say about them. they keep things humming, are damn fast to take care of problems and will do their best to fix things exactly how you need them.

I hear they're nicely priced too.

I don't know why 1337.as is so good to Zgeek. We break several of their rules particular the one against file sharing.

What choice do they have? There are only 5 web sites hosted in Australia. What are they supposed to do?

Domain seller - I used Webcity (http://domains.webcity.com.au/) and have never had a problem with them at all
Hosting - I host my own stuff on a Linux box in my living room, no need for hosting services when I can do it myself ;) ..... no soup for you.... ONE YEAR!!!

Quick responses from the heavy hitters, thanks guys. Appreciate the pointing in the right direction. 1337.as seem to be running in first position, with both www.zgeek.com and www.kleph.com as referees. Yet, Asmodeus is one of the ancient ones, dare I ignore his wisdom and power, decisions, decisions.

Thanks again guys, I will let you know whatever happens.
