View Full Version : April Photo Contest THEME
Hey guys,
Time to start posting your nominations for next month's (April) theme.
Please post in this thread your ideas/nominations and I will create a poll of the nominations on monday night (28/03). This should give us enough time to vote and be ready for April 1.
Here are some ideas to get us started:
- retro
- blue
- my street
- rocks
- layers
:)
OK. Have added the poll to start voting for the theme for April. Hope I got all the ideas. Poll will close on April 1.

The way topics would work in my old art class, was that the title was much less specific. Whereas here we've had very specific things like 'Blue' and 'Rocks' and 'My Street' suggested, back in school we would get topics that were just one word, say 'Restricted' for example, which we could then interpret any way we chose.
Personally I think this kind of approach gives us a much better scope for ideas than having a specific subject matter like 'Water' or 'Nature', but still gives everything an overall theme to tie the entries together.
I have to agree - last month was just keeping it simple so as not to tread on anyones toes.
As far as blue and rocks are concerned, I suggested them purposely to be generic. At least that was my intent. :)
But I am all for the vague themes that can be loosely interpreted. Wasn't sure how it would go though.
I will be adding "restricted" to the poll....

hehe, I got the word restricted by glancing across to my email and picking the first word that stood out.
Should be popular with the bondage freaks.

Now I realise that we would have to have name tags and faces fuzzed for privacy, but I think Parking Inspectors would be a good theme. :D

i still think the idea of identifying a subject is a good way to run the contest. it gives a concrete anchor for the entrants to adhere to but really pushes the creativity as well.
i believe we will be relatively open to any interpretation as long as it falls in the time requirement. remember, we arent getting grades or cash here.
i still think requiring a human subject is one of the best ones to use.
also, we should avoid seasonal subjects due to the hemispheric disparity of the participants.

I figured I'd be a shoe-in to win with my seasonal/geographic theme.
I don't like any of the choices.. :(
I liked last months better, things like
water, motion etc..etc

Mwahahahahaha 100% votes go to Organic.
Of course I'm the first to vote. :D
So don't you vote or you'll all screw up the results. :D

I only listed those themes that were nominated in the thread. Yeah, some of them were a bit strange but the people have spoken!
We will have to make sure that next time we think up some better themes.

I thought that whole 'organic' idea was a joke. Organic = Almost everything in the world. How is that a good theme?

Easily fixed - dont vote for it :)

Maybe this will encourage more people to suggest some "better" themes for next month. But abstract can be fun.

I suppose if you want very restrictive limits then organic may not be a good idea but I find some of the best photos are those of animals/people in action. Plant life can be very fascinating as well.
Although I must say I don't like photos of people where they know they're being photographed because the images feel forced. I like photos of people just "being" i.e. kids playing in a playground, kayakers in the heat of it, people at work, etc all while not worrying about the camera and "playing for the lens".

I think organic is just too wide a subject. You should draw the limit somewhere like 'wild animals' rather than just 'organic.' Just a suggestion. I agree with you that photos of people who pose for the camera are usually not good pictures.

Does restricted means the photos have to wrapped in plastic, to protect the kiddies?

What a coincidence, I was going to shoot some kiddies wrapped in plastic.
