In my Art history class this week 2 names kept coming up that were familiar, I couldn't place them until I saw the Rousseau rerun last week.
John Locke and Rousseau were philosophers during the Baroque period in Europe.
Apon further inspection I notices that Walt Lloyd is a cinematographer (sex, lies and video tape)
Jin Sun-Kwon is a digital skin artist
make one wonder does it not

John Locke first posited the "Tabula Rasa" or clean slate idea. Which is basically what they all got by crashing on the island, a chance to start over.
It's all intentional.

If that dude in the bunker ain't a "other" I'll kiss your ass!
Last nights episode. They found the balloon...however statements made at the table eatting cereal makes one think twice.
Sun is pregnant, and Jin sperm doesn't swim, could be why the others tried to take her recently.

yeah they didnt find the balloon yet, but they were looking.
i agree with nandragon about the coments around the breakfast table, absolutely made me think he was either:
a. one of the others and that was his way of telling them that was smarter than them and was now going to get out of there.
or
b. is NOT one of the others, but realises that he is going to be killed and knows the only way of delaying that is to make them think that his friends have sayid and charlie and shit... it puts him in a position of power and gives him something to bargain with... at least until they get back...
and yes haggisboy it was definately charlie who kidnapped sun, not the others.

firstly, ill be pissed off if he isnt one of the others.....
but im sick of lost teasing about something that then isnt the case.
the whole, maybe its not jins and she had an affair tease... for example.
question with what thier prisoner guy said, where did he send them, that he'd know they'd be captured? can the others listen in to the hatch? why wouldnt the others have got him out with their own means or something?
if they do find a baloon, there better be a good twist, like it isnt actually his balloon, or there's a big dhama thing on it or some shit... or a dead richard branson.

Locke, locked down in the bunker....
"voices" coming from the speakers in the bunker just before the Locke down....
I didn't catch the charlie jacket thing....hmmm....it IS possible that he's really NOT charlie....

I find that connecting to the torrent anytime before 8pm on the Thursday afternoon results in a snail's pace downloading, whatever the speed of your net connection.
Try again in a couple of hours, you'll really notice the difference. In any event I don't usually have it on full until about midnight.

**spoilers**
In last nights episode, they find henry's balloon, and the grave....
Locke and henry are trapped during a most "conveinient" lockdown. whilst Jack and sawyer are playing poker, it would seem there's a bit of poker playing going on in the bunker....does it not seem as if those damn others have some sort of esp thing going on?
Was henry (henceforth known as "the worm", just because he is a bit wormy) really knocked unconcious on the floor?
Did he really know nothing of why the doors raised?
I think he knew everything and was part of the cause....
Lock blew his engagement to Helen and got his legs crushed all in one episode. You know, we haven't seen how he originally got in that damn wheel chair now have we?!
And what's up with sunshine/freckles now mooning over jack, just because he won a damn game of poker! Good for Jack! Not letting her in the bunker!
And so now we know that the worm is not Henry Gale the balloonist.

In last nights episode, they find henry's balloon, and the grave....
Perhaps the most important aspect of last night's episode was the discovery by Jack, Sayed, Kate, Charlie and Anna that Dharma food supplies are still actively being air dropped onto the island.
It was a small part of the episode, but an important one.

well the thing is with him being shot, we aint seen bullet holes. remember when jack or sayid or something saw lockes kidney surgery scar, he would have commented on bullet holes if they were there,,
but Jins fixed nutsack points to the island cureing medial problems.. althought i dont like that idea

It is a magic island, there's the numbers that were used to win stuff and then there's also Locke's ability to walk again. There's also some other stuff I'm pretty sure.
I thought Locke was gonna get beat up by the two goons and get disabled.
I thought the supplies were a result of something happening in the bunker.
What was that that was projected onto the blast doors?
Up_All_Night
01-04-2006, 02:38 AM
nah isnt it all meant to be based on science? or didnt they people a while back say that everything thats happened can be explained with science.
Lockes inability to walk may have been physcological, all the disapointments in his life etc. Remember when he couldnt open the hatch and things werent going his way, his ability to walk was failing...
for more on drawings
the tail section (http://www.thetailsection.com/) has some large cleaned up pics.. no idea what it all means...
the lock down was possibly to keep the hatch people in the hatch while supplies dropped.. doesnt make sense with them having to press the button though... but it was obviously linked.... however how come no one on island saw or head a plane..
Seeing there are only another few episodes of the season to go I think they are going to have to get further in to detail about 'the others' before the season is finished, just to keep people interested... so the next couple of episodes should be good :)
Bostonmess
01-04-2006, 05:47 AM
http://forum.zgeek.com/gallery/files/6/6/2/cleanwall-707484_thumb.jpgLocke's inability to walk could have been physical too and a big bang on his spine from the accident might have sorted him out. I think that type of shit has happened in real life?
The numbers thing is harder to explain and then there's the black smokey thing that sees into your soul, grabs you by your ankle and tries to drag you down a hole. Off the island there's the hinting that claire's baby Aaron might be some sort of messiah type thing but then who hasn't had a baby and thought it special in some way or another?
Jack the miracle doctor cures the paraplegic woman (but didn't save Boone or that other dude who's daughter he shagged), maybe it's the people who are magic.
I still think I'm missing some other magic thing.
That pics a nice find. Lets have a clickable thumb.

I think that the pic is a map of the overall hatch system on the island.
I must say, things are turning out very differently to how I thought.

In the opening episode of season 2, after Walt's abduction, as Michael and Sawyer struggled to stay afloat on the remains of their raft, they were encircled by a shark. Check some of the earlier posts in this thread as I'm pretty sure somebody posted an enlarged pic of the shark's fin. It carried a Dharma logo.
And of course, the polar bear was established in season 1.

For those who've seen tonight's episode of Lost, is Hurley loco? Is Dave a mere figment of his imagination? And what of that final shot of Libby? WTF's up with that?
It was interesting to see a line of such major importance, uttered by "Henry" during his conversation with Locke, get delivered in such a nonchalant manner and seemingly glossed over: that the island could not be "seen" by the outside world.
Heady stuff. Time to get torrenting folks, it's a terrific episode.

I was thinking they were all in the asylum and all under treatment and it was like some matrixy type of virtual reality, or just drug induced hynosis stuff. Locke's really in a wheelchair and they're slowly gonna introduce him to the reality that he can't walk. They've all? had some major trauma in their life and it could all be just some group therapy treatment.
I hope not, it's bit too much like A Maze of Death? by Philip Dick to me then.

libbys after the money, has to be it. She knew him from the mental home, and it was probably know in the home it would have been known hurley won the money..
or what if she was there right up until the trip to australia and she went there to find out. Remember hurley went back there to find the guy who just repeated the numbers.. she gets out, goes on a mission to find him....
the look on her face after the cliff scene when they are walking away points to some exterior motive...

The only problem with this theory is that I'm pretty sure the stuff in the mental home took place before Hurley won the lotto. After all, it was during that stay that he met that headcase playing plinko that kept reciting those numbers. The numbers he eventually played and won the lottery with.

yes it took place before he won the lotto, but he came back there and mentioning playing the numbers in the lotto and winning to the numbers guy.
But if it was news which in the show was shown in Korea, chances are she might have seen it and recognized Hurley.
it may not be whats happening but she must have a reason for pretending to like hurley and keeping secret she was in the home, and 200million bucks is a good one.

Im going to rewatch first season at some stage, and i want to see if any Dharma shit is hidden in that, i bet there wasnt as i believe that was all made up after the season. Maybe the lack of planning is being made up for over the top now.
I do believe alot of little hidden things in the show are just there for fun, no actually relevance to anything.

now no more lost until may.
so the island has magical healing properties... how exactly is this meant to work.. Locke can walk, Rose has no cancer, instantly from the plane crashing... Jins nuts can be assumed to have been fixed from then aswell, Yet Sawyer hasnt had any mentioned improved healing on his bulet hole...
I have to say it shitted me how everyone was all against the giant SOS, i mean shit thats something you would do early on. And how fucking selfish of rose, wanting to stay so making that choice for everyone else on the island.
They need to speed the show up, it's crap when they have the last 5 seconds of an episode that is the only part that gives you anything..
Up_All_Night
15-04-2006, 04:27 PM
yeah, especially when they do that with no new episode for a few weeks to explain it.
Oh and im sick of this retarded keeping secrets thing. I think its fair enough keeping the captured guy secret, but finding the other hatch, there could be some use from actually going through it...
Id still rather it turn out to be a good explanation from things instead of, the island has magical magnetic energy that heals people.
They need to get to the bottom of all the plots that have been started, things like the security system, the sickness and the others.. they have all these good plots going but they just don't want to answer them and are filling in episodes with garbage that we don't need to see anymore..
They have established the fact that jack is a doctor & Charlie was a junkie and Locke had a scammer for a dad so many times and it relates nothing to the episode at hand. It was good that they introduced the majority of the characters but there is no need to dedicate 3 episodes per character.
It's a shame that this show is getting boring as it has so much potential, they showed this towards the end of season one.. they need to get back on track.
Up_All_Night
15-04-2006, 04:57 PM
it kind of does seem like they dont have answers to everything.
Why are they drumming in the healing nature of the island?, they got nothing else to say? Wasnt that the point of the Sun getting preggers episode only a couple of eps back? Why waste another on it and so soon. Is this because they want to make sure we understand that before something happens real soon or what?

Up_All_Night

not a mini series, but a deffinate timeline of a few seasons, or handled in a similar fashion to battlestar galactica. That show sets the benchmark for on going stories, progression and quality. part of the reason is, its made in 10 episode blocks. And from the end of the recent season, they're willing to shake things around to keep the show interesting and different.

26 Apr 06 Lost: Reckoning
3 May 06 Two for the Road
10 May 06 ?
17 May 06 Three Minutes
24 May 06 Live Together, Die Alone
SOME SPOILERS from spoilerfix.com
Special: Lost: Reckoning
Airdate: April 26, 2006
04/17 - The survivors of Oceanic flight 815 have been locked in a test of faith ever since they crashed on the island. Discover how this faith has been tested for both the fuselage survivors and tailies. Are you a person of faith or science? This is the dilemma that plagues the island survivors and also defines their character. Discover how faith in the hatch led Locke on a mission to find a way inside, and how his discovery of Desmond led to his belief that punching in the numbers every 108 minutes would ensure everyone's survival. In addition, Michael's dogged mission in finding Walt, the tailies fight for survival during their first 48 days through their collision with the fuselage survivors, the uncertainty of prisoner Henry Gale's allegiances, and tensions between the survivors and "The Others" have left everyone questioning what they believe in. Additionally, the healing powers of love are explored through a timid Hurley's struggle with asking Libby out on a date, through the strong bond between Sun and Jin, and through Jack and Sawyer's mutual - yet unrequited - attractions to Kate.
Episode 2.20: Two for the Road (Ana-Lucia-centric)
Airdate: May 3, 2006
04/17 - Guest starring are John Terry as Christian Shephard, Rachel Ticotin as Captain Teresa Cortez, Michael Emerson as Henry Gale and Gabrielle Fitzpatrick as Lindsey.
04/09 - Jack and Kate bring an exhausted Michael back to the camp, and with him, news about "The Others." Meanwhile, Ana Lucia attempts to get the prisoner to confess, and Hurley plans a surprise date for Libby.
02/27 - Michael will soon reappear.
Episode 2.21: ? (Eko-centric)
Airdate: May 10, 2006
04/18 - In a flashback at the airport, Charlotte delivers a message to Eko and Libby asks if if everything is all right.
04/01 - Turns out that supercool black-light reveal is a major plot point that carries on through the rest of the season. "Oh yeah, big time," Damon said. "I mean, it plays huge in the finale, and even in episodes 21 through 24. Twenty-one is an episode that is very much on the sort of fundamental axis of that map, and it's a Locke and Eko story, which is going to be awesome. [Executive Producer] Carlton [Cuse] and I wrote it. That episode is just called '?' because that is the symbol Locke remembers from the map."
03/23 - Claire (and possibly another Lostaway)-centric, featuring Charlotte a 16ish Australian who suffers a near death experience.[Note: It seems that it may not be Claire-centric but that she will appear in the flashback.]
Episode 2.22: Three Minutes (Michael-centric)
Airdate: May 17, 2006
04/12 - Michael will be getting a flashback episode on May 17, during which we'll learn what, um, Others stuff he's been up to these last couple of months. Whatever it is he's been doing, I understand we'll meet a very different Michael than the one we left. Walt will also be back, and yes, he'll still be played by Malcolm David Kelley. I'm also hearing that [the] episode contains a great scene between Jack and Sawyer. Even better than the poker stuff.
03/30 - Guest star is 'Mrs Klugh', a smart, interesting, edgy, powerful businesswoman in her early 40's.
Episode 2.23: Live Together, Die Alone (2-hour season finale) (Desmond-centric)
Airdate: May 24, 2006 from 9 to 11 p.m.[/I]
04/19 - The two-hour finale is basically one big Desmond flashback.
04/18 - [ Quite spoilery, highlight at your own risk... Spoiler: In flashback that is set in 2000 in L.A., Libby buys Desmond coffee and offers him her boat. Charlie and Eko enter the hatch to get dynamite. Rose and Locke have a chat. Later in the episode, we see Desmond lying on the beach shore, waking up, being carried to the hatch, and Desmond and Kelvin walking through the jungle. While in prison (not sure if it's on island or flashback), Widmore tells Desmond off. There will be one scene of Desmond in the stadium. Dr. Candle will appear. ]
04/18 - The episode will feature Gregg, an athletic stockbroker type who loves his job and the company that employs him.
04/15 - The episode will feature two foreign computer technicans working in a remote drilling station.
04/11 - Guest stars for season finale: Cameron, British (Rupert Murdochish) 50, rich steel tycoon, ruthless, competitive, protective of his daughter; Penelope, late 20's, beautiful, strong, daughter of Cameron, wants a simple life, to fall in love and start a family. Though she has no interest in her family's money she eventually uses it to get what she wants.
04/05 - We'll see Vincent in the finale.
Episode 2.??: Title Unknown (Libby-Centric)
Airdate: Spring 2006 (Note that some source say the Libby episode may happen next season instead.)
01/25 - Q. Is it possible that Lost's Libby is not a doctor, but a ********** ****? Ausiello: That's what I'm hearing, yes. [Note: We do not know for sure what was *** out, but most LOST fans believe it's "compulsive liar" some think it's "television star." On February 1, Ausiello gave a hint: *******i** ****.]
01/24 - You will get your Libby episode. This season.

WARNING - MAJOR SPOILER
As seen at the end of the previous episode, Jack and Kate bring the disorientated Michael back to the hatch. He tells them he's been to the Other's camp and gives them a detailing of their encampment. He tells Jack that their numbers are spread thin and that they can be taken by a properly armed force, and he could get Walt back.
Skipping over a lot of stuff.
At the end, while everybody is off trying to put the squeeze on Sawyer to get the guns to mount an assault, Anna-Lucia is left alone in the hatch with Henry Gale. She's sneaked a gun away from Sawyer with the intent to put a few slugs into Henry as payback for his assaulting her at the beginning of the episode.
She can't do it however, and as she sits there holding the gun, reflecting on her inability, Michael walks in. He convinces her to give her the gun saying he'd blow Henry away as payback for them taking his kid. She relents and gives him the gun. He then tells her he's sorry and fires a slug into her. She slumps over dead. Seconds later Libby walks in on the scene and surprises him. He turns around and blasts a few rounds into her. He then opens the room where Henry is being kept prisoner. Henry gives him this "svengali" look, and Michael goes into this zombie like state, turns the gun on himself, and fires.
One, two, three.... all dead.
My apologies to anyone who inadvertently read this when I initially posted it without the spoiler code in place. Fixed on edit, though.

It'll likely take a bit to find a torrent as it's only airing right now, as I post this, in the States. Here in Canada we get to see the episode two hours earlier than the Yanks as one of our network puts it on at 7 p.m., as opposed to 9 down south.

I posted this link a little earlier in this thread. Because of the way tonight's episode played out, I decided to re-watch it when ABC (in the States) aired the episode two hours later and it surprised me to see that in some of the commercial breaks during the show, ABC is running promotional spots for this same "organization" or website, complete with a phone number to call: 1-877-HANSORG
The Hanso Foundation (http://www.thehansofoundation.org/)
Additional Minor Spoiler about tonight's installment
Unlike the Canadian network that airs Lost 2 hours earlier, ABC concluded tonight's broadcast with a clip for next week's episode, and it appears that Michael survives as he is seen locked up with his arm in a sling. Jack, however, is seen pulling a sheet over a body and confirming that "she's" dead.

Based on information given in the May 2nd ep, these pics would appear to be of the "others" encampment. Michael added that they have a hatch - big metal doors that their camp is located just outside, and which they have two sentinels guarding with guns. What irks me about the first photo below is that the guy who took them wasn't able to telephoto in on the two babes in string bikinis seen off to the right of the pic. Damn........

Season 2: Episode 21: Title "?"
Only two more episodes left in the season.......
Tonight's installment was a sharp reminder of how damn good this show can be when story telling, pacing, and a minimal but focused amount of flashbacks all come together. You want the spoilers? Click the button. You know you want to......
Anna-Lucia is, indeed, dead. Jack, Kate and Sawyer stumbled upon a wounded Michael as they approached the hatch. He informed them that the other two were dead. Only problem was, Libby was still hanging in, but it didn't look good.
Meanwhile, Ecko is visited by his brother in a dream, who tells him to take Locke and go on a mission to find the Question Mark - and oh yeah - bring the axe.
So off on the trek they go. After much meandering, and Locke also being visited by Ecko's bro in a dream of his own, they find the "?". It was carved into the ground in the clearing where the heroin plane fell. And right below it, another hatch.
Unlike past episodes that would have ended here, this installment was moving at a brisk pace. Locke and Ecko open the hatch and revealing a shaft heading straight down, with ladders on either side. Down they go.
At the bottom they find themselves in a control room with a wall of antique TV screens mounted in a console, and two lazy-boy-type chairs with side tables facing the screens. Locke begins to turn on the TVs, and is surprised to find one of them reveals the goings on inside Swan station where the drama to save Libby's life is still unfolding.
They also discover another orientation film - this time a videotape - for Dharma Station "The Pearl", the very station they are in. They watch it and it reveals that the satellite Dharma stations, of which The Swan is one, are all the homes of psychological experiments (i.e. the button pushing). Whoever was supposed to staff The Pearl station was also supposed to chronicle their observations of the other stations, gleaned from the TV screens and monitoring cameras, write them in journals, and feed the journals to some as yet unseen destination via a pneumatic tube system leading away from Pearl station.
Really wild stuff. Locke is crestfallen, concluding that his percieved "destiny" to push the button was nothing but a rat in a maze type of experiment. Ecko, on the other hand, is firmly convinced otherwise, saying it's more important than ever to push the button.
Finally, back at Swan Station, Jack gives Libby an injection (overdose?) of heroin to free her from the pain, as there's nothing he can do about her wounds. She tries to warn them about Michael, but only manages to utter his name before expiring.
End of episode.

Interested episode... sucks that the season gettings good and almost over :(
the question is, is the lie about the swan station in the pearls oreintation video, or in the swans...
also the whole seeing dead people, messages in dreams i dont like, it moves the show into supernatural territory which means there doesnt havent to be an aswer for the questions.

What I don't get is the plot holes. Are the just bad writing or are the people on the island just dumb and its part of the story.
For instance Michaels story about them only having a few guns. But they haulled off a bunch of their guns when they first encountered the others. Also he say's they are all dirty and fucked up yet they found the costumes. I don't get it.

You gotta go with Bostonmess's view here. You also must keep in mind that they've established that individual members of the survivors are not exactly sharing information on their individual discoveries with each other. If you recall, it was only one or two episodes ago that Kate finally disclosed to Jack that she, along with Claire and the French woman, had discovered yet another hatch in their quest for medicine to aid Claire's baby.
Bostonmess
13-05-2006, 12:10 AM
It's true - they tell each other fuck all. That's a bit strange/paranoid, maybe they are all still in a loony bin under treatment?
Up_All_Night
13-05-2006, 12:10 AM
I would say because everything happens in a short amount of time, they havent got around to process the information. Kate should pick up on this as she went to the other hatch and knows claires story. We shall see.
Michael doesnt know about them hanging over the guns, them finding the other hatch and seeing costumes etc.
Personally I find the whole, living in tents thing another set of people, not the others that ethan and whats his face are with. Or they are a trap or another theatrical piece.
I find it odd, the island seems to have been set up so everythings hidden for anyone who comes across the island wont know its there... yet you build little huts on the beach, doesnt fit in.
it'll be interesting to see how this season ends.
I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't the "central" hatch (or was it?) that the map alluded to. I was looking forward to something that somehow tied all the other stations together.
On the other hand, it could be that The Pearl is able to observe more than just The Swan, but we don't know that for sure.
One thing I don't get - If The Swan is just a Skinner Box (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skinner_box) as some people have proposed, why the fuck would you set it all up on some remote Pacific island rather than somewhere in a more accessable, yet relatively remote, location?
Another thing - if The Swan's "button" does nothing, why the fuck are they still dropping supplies there now that The Pearl is uninhabited?
Will it all become clear? I don't think so. :banghead:
Up_All_Night
14-05-2006, 03:03 PM
well the reason the swan is still going is possibly because the button does something. Maybe for observing reasons the people in the pearl were told the swan doesnt do anything.
The Pearl thing though, was there more than just that room? if people have to live there for 3 weeks, wouldnt there have been more than a room...
Also, whats a popla, or polar or something ferry?
according to the map it seemed central to the other hatches... yet it appeared it was just for monitoring the swan.. maybe it wasnt the ?, or it was called ? because it was a mystery as to what it meant.
hazza
15-05-2006, 12:57 AM
what if the pushing of the button is making the dharma institute people think that the people are still doing the experiment, hence the food being dropped. the guy that was originally in the hatch just said he was told to do it or the world would end or something. maybe the person who told him to keep doing it knew that food would get dropped n stuff.
Up_All_Night
15-05-2006, 01:03 AM
what i want to know is, who collects the trash for the hatch?
further more, if some of the applicances, like the washer and dryer are new, means that there must be some communcation and involvement with the outside world than just dropping food.
I think the world coming to an end comment was meant as an expression because pushing the button was his world for the past couple years.

Lost: Episode 22
A transitional episode, setting things up for the grand finale. Go ahead, click the spoiler button. Don't be a pussy.
No traditional flashbacks in this one. All island, all the time. The closest we come to flashbacks are scenes, set over a period of a few weeks to a few days prior to Michael's return to camp, showing what happened to him during his abuduction by "The Others", and it doesn't look pretty folks.
It appears Michael hasn't been brainwashed (although the final word on that appears yet to be resolved - see "vomiting/sickness" and "vaccine" in this episode - you'll know what I mean when you watch the show). Rather, it appears his homicidal rampage was due to nothing more than a simple deal cut between him and a female matriarch of The Others named "Clue".
Michael's capture is shown, and we see him being brought into their camp (pics of which have been posted earlier in this thread). He gets to see Walt (who appears to have grown noticeably - watch for this when you see the episode and tell me if you agree or disagree) who tells his father, over the protestations of Clue, that they aren't what they appear to be.
Clue presents Michael with a list of names: Jack, Sawyer, Kate and Hurley, all of whom, no more and no less, must be coerced into following him back to their camp. If these exact individuals don't come, he will never see Walt again.
The last we are shown in this scene, Michael ups the ante by telling Clue if he does this, he wants "the boat".
The balance of the episode sees Micheal doing his best to convince the four, and only the four, to follow him in an "assault" on The Others' camp. He gets pretty eyebrow-raisingly antsy when Sawyer invites Sayid to join up, and gets equally upset when Hurley tells him he has no interest. It's only a matter of time before key individuals take notice.
The final scene sees the castaways holding a burial ceremony for Anna-Lucia and Libby, when all of a sudden, Jinn's eyes widen and she points to something (which we get to see)........... a boat!

Since he shot himself, he was obviously brainwashed. Where's the plot hole?Plot holes...Michael said they only had two guns.. yet they would have more since they took Jacks etc guns when they first met.
Dirtiness and run idea they are all lesser than them.. yet the pregnant chick told them about the medical center, and she found their disguises... there are a few others.. can't remember.

I wish i didnt know who'd be on the boat, i bet its Desmond
anyways as obviouslt that whole village was just fake, as Walt said they are not who they are pretending to be, and we know they are not like that from them in the medical hatch.. what do you think the plan is? what is so special about Jack, Sawyer, Hurley and Kate?
Haggisboy
20-05-2006, 04:15 PM
Well..............
from what's been revealed in interviews with the producers, next week's season finale will reveal (among other things) why the plane went down. It would appear that the crash was no accident. I understand there will also be some gun play, and that we will see the return of that Desmond character (the guy who was helming Swan Station and buggered off), and that the last episode will, purportedly, set the stage for his becoming a regular next season.
Up_All_Night
20-05-2006, 04:24 PM
yeah thats why i think desmond will be on the boat, it'll be the one he was sailing when he crashed on the island.. he found it and tried to sail away but some how ended back at the island.. or he has something to tell jack and the others..
apparently the season final also puts to an end the whole hatch thing..

The Tail Section (http://www.thetailsection.com/) have an AVI of the season finale available for download (http://www.thetailsection.com/finale.preview.avi). They're also running what they claim are fairly reliable spoilers for the season finale. Here's the first of three installments. As of this posting, the other two haven't been put up.
"The episode opens with Desmond arriving in the sailboat, completely drunk. In flashback he is being let out of jail and being picked up by his fiancee/wife's father Charles Widmore. Widmore thinks Desmond is useless and tries to talk him into leaving his daughter. Desmond refuses.
His backstory is all about Desmond's battle with alcohol. He is desperate to free himself from the bottle and be taken seriously. He sees his "race" as an opportunity for renewal but nobody believes in him. You find out his problems with alcohol are what prevented him from becoming a doctor. When he is "training" at the collesium he doesn't even have a clue how he is going to enter the race. There is talk of faith and redemption all through this part of his backstory.
I think that Widmore was somehow responsible for Libby being in the institution because she is very contemptuous towards him and is working behind his back to help Desmond because she knows it will piss Widmore off. Don't know if she is his wife like some people say, or daughter. Little bit fuzzy here.
In the island scenes Desmond and Locke find themselves kindred spirits. When Locke tells Desmond that there was someone watching him, and shows him the printouts and explains the orientation for the Pearl station, Desmond flips out. He can't believe he was set up. Locke explains the situation with Eko and Desmond decides to show him something he thinks can help Locke with his quest to stop the button from being pushed.
Meanwhile, Sayid convinces Jin to join him off shore to make sure things are kosher with the Walt rescue. Jin absolutely does not believe that Michael is "compromised" and comes along more to keep an eye on Sayid. "

Oh man...... oh man........
It would appear Desmond crashed the plane, and that the button is no farce. What's with the one remaining foot of a long toppled four-toed statue spotted by Sun and Sayid from the boat?
The failsafe switch.... the white light and screaming sound that blanketed the island when the button wasn't pressed.... are Michael and Walt really en route to be rescued for real? The Russian(?) monitoring station in Siberia(?) whose team monitors an electromagneticism outbreak and calls (gulp) Desmond's ex and tells her they've found them......
Way too much to write spoilers about. Time to watch and discuss.....

Check out this still image of one of the Russian (?) guys at the end of the episode. Isn't this the same actor that plays Jack?

Oh man...... oh man........
It would appear Desmond crashed the plane, and that the button is no farce. What's with the one remaining foot of a long toppled four-toed statue spotted by Sun and Sayid from the boat?
Yeah, that was a little odd.
Oh man...... oh man........
Maybe they weren't monitoring an electromagnetic outbreak, maybe they were monitoring a GPS device on his boat.
Desmond said he sailed due west and came right back to the island. "We are in a snowglobe!" he said. What if the "magnet" was causing his instruments to go out of whack so he sailed in a circle instead of a straight line? What if the "magnet" also was stopping all communications from leaving the island (the french woman's signal, the boat GPS) and when it shut down the GPS signal went out and the Russian guys saw it.
Just a theory. :weed:

Normally I'd say you're onto something regarding the GPS idea, however the computer screen of the Russians distinctly showed an Electromagnetic Disturbance Alert. I remember that clearly enough as the camera lingered on it.
Clearly there's more than simple magnetism at play here. My theory is that the island's magnetic properties are actually being channelled into a force field enveloping it, not only keeping it from outside view, but in some way - either by invoking an invisible energy barrier or by messing with compasses - preventing people from leaving. If Michael, who was told to follow a specific compass reading to escape, is able to make it out, then I figure the latter theory is bunk and that the former, with the idea of a secret "doorway" would prevail.
A telling hint as regards this force field theory of mine was demonstrated when the quarantine hatch door came crashing down on the beach. Something had sucked it up in the air and then (when the failsafe switch was turned) dropped it. I'm sure the writers did this to allow viewers to think the Swan station had blown up, but I think that's just a red herring. I think the force field is the way to go.

Ahhh, I didn't notice that on the computer screen. Nice.
I like the force field theory. That would fit in with the quote "We're in a snowglobe."

So, if you add 4 and 8 you get 12, add 11 and you get 23. And if you add 15 and 16 you get 31, add 11 and you get 42. What's the deal there?

I'd been following with interest until last week (Aus TV schedule, that is episode 13 "The Long Con"). This episode made me re-evaluate my enthusiasm for some reason, and as a result I realised that not only do I not empathise with or like *any* of the characters any more, I don't care what happens to them. Call it "empathy fatigue" if you like. That was the last episode I will likely watch.
I guess there's a reason why "The Lord of the Flies" is only 92 minutes long.
That is all.

It looks like they're setting up some cool plot lines for the next series:
Who are the "others" really? They can't ignore Jack, Sawyer and Kate's story for too long.
External world searching for the island cause of the chick's search for Desmond.
Possibly Walt and Michael getting back to the external world?
The foot???
I still can't believe they answered two of the biggest questions of the series: the hatch's button is real, the plane was crashed by the electromagnetic activity cause the button wasn't pressed. And what's with Hurley's chick from the mental ward? What's her story?
I highly doubt that one of the Spanish dudes was played by Matthew Fox too...

yeah the spanish dude, its like, ah it could be.. i honestly didnt even think that until i read this.. doubt it would be.
so what splotlines next season..
what happened to those in the hatch...
jin, sun and sahid on the boat... they better do some exploring.. investivate the foot, etc.
michael, walt... where will they end up.. will they get back to civilisation and then have to convince others the island exists.. will they go back to normal life only to end up getting involed again, or getting others involved.. will their boat rock up on other side of island..
kate, jack, sawyer.. where is the home of the others and why do they want them...
people on beach.. snoozefest people

Was the 'bird' that they encountered prehistoric? Are the 'bad guys' an undiscovered homo species with 4 toes?

Much, much more satisfying than last year's finale, in which zero questions were answered. I thought this season's finale had much more of a pay off for viewers that have hung in for the ride thus far.

btw did anyone else think, from a couple of episodes ago, that Claire might be Jack's 1/2 sister? We never did see who the daughter was that Jack's father wanted to see, just a thought

Looks like Desmond was right when he told 'Box Man' he had it back to front and in fact the workers in The Pearl were being bluffed into thinking their monitoring was important. The vacuum tube ends in an empty field and their handwritten notes (and Locke's map) end up dumped without being read - like the ones at Monty's powerplant that end up being used for a beaver dam)Clearly there's more than simple magnetism at play here. It seems the island's magnetic properties are pretty powerful (enough to pull a jumbo off course and tear it apart) and the hatch (and other hatches) are part of a system that keeps this magnetism under control. At first i thought the hatch setup was something to generate some kind of electromagnetic field, but Ecko's cross, Charlie's belt etc are always attracted to parts of the walls even when the button's been pushed and all is well.. and Desmond mentioned something about 'venting' the excess every 108 mins. When they don't push the button the system keeping the magnetism under control starts to break down and the magnetic force starts to be released and all the metal objects in the hatch start getting dragged in.
The time Desmond didn't push the button the magnetism started getting released and was enough to drag the plane onto the island (though Haggisboy's Force Field that keeps the island from being seen by the outside world)
A telling hint as regards this force field theory of mine was demonstrated when the quarantine hatch door came crashing down on the beach. Something had sucked it up in the air and then (when the failsafe switch was turned) dropped it. I'm sure the writers did this to allow viewers to think the Swan station had blown up, but I think that's just a red herring. I think the force field is the way to go.So what happened when Desmond turned that 'system failure' failsafe key switch.. seems to me that the hatch releases the excess 'magnetism' every 108mins, bad shit happens if you don't release the excess every 108mins (planes sucked off course, etc), and if you forget to push the button then as a last resort you can turn a switch (Farewell, brother?) that sets off a process that contains the 'magnetic leak?' and returns everything to normal.
So what happens if you don't press the button and don't turn the failsafe key? does it unleash the full 'unique magnetic power' of the island and drag every metallic object on earth towards and then onto the island, causing global chaos, making the earth look like a giant 'snowdome' before it loses orbit and ends up on a collision course?? :weed:
And are there more hatches with other people putting in the code every 108mins? And what's with the 'invisible map' that Locke found.. it was being worked on by Desmond's rescuer/boss but originally started by the other guy who worked in the hatch until he went mad and shotgunned himself.. if the hatch was destroyed then the invisible map would be gone.
Great show! End of season answered lotsa questions and raised lots more (like the giant bird that says "Hurleeeee!" and the four toes...) Hopefully we'll get a few more seasons.

UPDATED SPOILER LIST
General Season 3 spoilers:
* new 05/26 - I just received some exclusive intel on the new characters joining Lost. In addition to the two female roles, the show is also adding a new hunk. Descriptions are: Female, 30s, with leadership qualities. Female, early 20s, very attractive. Male, Latino, early 20s, handsome, mysterious quality. My guess? These are some of the "background" survivors that Carlton Cuse told me would emerge next season. Source: The Ausiello Report
* new 05/26 - Next season will be about the Others, as led by the oblique Henry Gale (played by Michael Emerson, who will join the regular cast). Mr. Cuse listed what viewers will learn about the Others by this time next year: "Who are these people? How many of them are there? What is their history? What are they trying to accomplish?" Source: New York Times
* new 05/25 - Producers of ABC's hit series Lost [...] told SCI FI Wire that it sets up the upcoming third season, which will focus more on romance—and on the mysterious Others. "The Others are an important part of season three, and there's a lot of mysteries and a lot of questions about the Others that the audience is going to be curious about going into season three," said executive producer Carlton Cuse in an interview. "And those are the things we're going to explore." Cuse added: "There will definitely be some new characters on the show next year. ... Obviously, Michael
