You think I should pay? The funny thing was in the letter they also state that this includes $0.00 debt collection expenses...... I would have thought my might try to charge me for the stamp....
50c could make a huge impact to my credit rating :D

If you don't pay then they'll likely send around some heavies in sheepskin jackets to not enter your home and not take any items in lieu of non-payment for no outstanding amounts.
Be warned.

That's happened to me too - three successive demands for $0.00 from a bank. What a waste of postage.

The debt collection agency steps in when you don't pay the $0.00 invoices that some business accidently sent to you.

Why don't you write to them asking them for an analysis of the fees and charges charged against your file and then dispute something on it.
Or if that doesn't work or if there are none write a letter of complaint concerning their conduct to the Fair Trading department in your state or territory... It costs you nothing and they are going to have to respond.
If you want to escalate things you could threaten them with defamation for sending stuff to you when clearly you owe them nothing....the postman had to have seen the envelope and if you live with housemates then they could have too this lowering their opinion of you.
Alternatively you could email their customer service email once a day untill they respond to you with queries regarding the effectiveness or ethicallity of doing what they did.
Considering also that debt recovery agencies act on behalf of client's to whom it is alleged you owe money you could do all or any of the above to the creditor at the top of the chain.
Remember this sort of nuisance costs very little for the private individual to do and consumes resources for the recipient to deal with in whatever way they propose to do so.
You could send them a bill for processing their incorrectly sent and highly concerning letter shit like that.
Remember if only a few people took action like this then the combined effect on the originators of this rubbish starts to become large.
Have fun and let the games begin.

I heard a story about a dude who got a few bills for $0.00 that he just threw away, then they started getting threatening so he sent a cheque for $0.00 which fucked something up at the bank.
Do that, breaking stuff is cool.

You know I might well do that..... though why not put the cheque inside a fridge box (you know the old trick of taping it to the bottom and filling the rest with styrofoam) and then send that receiver pays via Air freight....
Then again maybe I'll just phone them (costing me an infinite amount more than the bill) and ask them what the F$%# is going on.....

Yeah, it was a gas bill or something. His service was even cut for a while. Then the bank/company tried to claim damages caused by the $0.00 cheque but they got shafted.
So do what Bishi says and you can earn the right to use this emoticon: :1337:

Don't have a cheque book...... Don't think the Post Office would give me a money order for $0.00..... and I guess that would cost $2.50.

You sould see if you can make an internet banking payment for $0.00
I had Westpac send me about seven bills over a seven month period claiming that I owed them zero dollars on a car loan. I just ignored them and they went away.

Yeah ask for a payment plan. Alternatively, call and say you'll pay half each week for as long as it takes to pay off.

Oh, I actually forgot that no one uses those anymore or if they do they are too embarassed to admit. You could print a novelty cheque though. Put a picture of The Hoff on it or something.

Ring up "a current Affair" or "today tonight" they are always screaming for shit like this. It would be fun to make it all public.

i'm guessing it would look something like this.....
but i was under the impression that debt collection agencies couldnt be used for sums of money less than $100.. so in theory... you can bust them for intimidation processes...
