Thursday night I had my 30th birthday dinner at the Lowenbrau. Great place, but fucked rules. For reserved table with 10 or more people you HAVE to have a set menu and you HAVE to give them a deposit of $20 per person to reserve your table. Normally I would tell a restaurant where to stick it with rules like that, but the Lowenbrau is actually a lot of fun...and it was my 30th!

We eat and drink lots, have a ball, take lots of picture with all my friends. The bill comes and they deduct the deposit from the bill and I get reimbursed when my friends give me the cash. The bad thing is...I now have $500 in my wallet on a drunken night out.

Then, my lovely friends give me a $400 voucher from Flight Centre (such a good present!).

So, I have $500 in my wallet, my phone, $400 voucher, $600 camera and ALL my 30th birthday pictures on the flash card and my DKNY sunnies in my bag. We go to another couple of pubs and hop in a cab...

This is where things get bad.

The cabbie picks us up and he already has a guy in the cab. He tells us that we pay $20 and the other guy pays $20 for getting from the city to Balmain!!! No fucking way. So, we get out at the lights...and my friend LEAVES MY FUCKING BAG IN THE CAR!

My mate runs back to get my bag and the FUCKING CABBIE WON'T LET HIM BACK IN THE CAB TO GET IT!!!

We have times, cab company, pick ups and drop off street names, but there is nothing the cab company can do (of course there isn't!). To top it all off...the lost property is closed until Tuesday, but I'm not holding my breath.

FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

...thanks for letting me vent

O_O!?

That is totally fucked up! When the place opens up on Tuesday, go down to the taxi company in person, and tell them what happened. If that doesnt work, goto the department of consumer affairs, or better yet, the police, and tell them that the cabby wouldn't let you back in to the taxi. That counts as theft pretty much.

I've done a police report.

The problem is the taxi company claim that the taxi driver probably didn't notice that the bag was there and just throught my mate was going back to abuse him and that the driver has a 'right' to protect himself.

They also said that because the driver didn't notice the bag it was probably stolen by the next fare. Yeah. Right.

bunch of wankers. Cabbies are prety low on the scale in my books, in fact i could safely say they're on my "list", along with pretty much eveyone on zgeek :D

Bad luck dude, wait for the cabbie, get a fare with him then beat him. You might not get your bag back but you'll feel better

Ask your mates to check with Flight Centre if they can track the Voucher that they got you, they should have tracking codes of some sort on them, so that the franchise that redeems the voucher can claim from the store that sold the voucher.

Never know your luck, they might be able to put a flag on that voucher number and nab the thieving bastard.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, but Happy 30th nonetheless.

A guy at my work lost his CC
and about $800 was used by a cabbie just running it through his machine over and over again on 'pretend' fares.

fucked up.

First, Happy 30th mate.

Secondly, you should find out where he lives some how, either follow him home or bribe someone at the office.

put a sticker on his passenger door saying.

" Those are really nice pants, they would look great on my back seat "

Thanks to everyone for their messages. Muchly appreciated.

The worst of it is that my car key snapped in the ignition of my car years ago and the only way to start it is to use the other half of the key that is on my keyring...that the cabbie has. So, no more car for a while.

Ahhh well...I guess when it comes down to it they were all material possessions that can be replaced. It can all be fixed by being short of cash for a while I suppose...

you don't have to be short of cash if you choose to go into the glamourous life and big bucks of prostitution

I had similar situation once where I hailed a cab with somebody already in it that I didn't know. the cabbie told me according to the "rules", the first guy would pay the fare when he got to his place, and then I would pay the full fare (inclusive of the already paid bit) when I got to my place. stupidly, and being drunk at the time, I agreed. Turns out this dude lived nowhere near my place, and it cost at least $15 extra than a normal fare to my place. I ended up arguing with the cab driver, and he spun some story about a girl doing a runner on him, and he was $70 down for the night or some such crap. I ended up paying him, but I wasn't happy.

Cab drivers :grr:

According to the taxi company if they have two separate people they can charge them 75% of the fare each!!! How the fuck does that work?!?

However, someone doing the runner on him is not your problem...

I think a lot of them prey on picking up drunk passengers so that they can fuck with them, knowing they don't know any better at the time. How many people have woken up the next morning and realised that they have paid the cabbie way too much for a short trip home?

Yeah, unless you're going to exactly the same place, the 75% each doesn't even work mathematically...

As long as I'm not totally drunk, I'll tell the cab driver which way to go to avoid getting ripped off. I don't actually mind giving cabbies a tip for a short trip. Once they start complaining though, no tippage for them!

Being a cabbie would suck, cunts do runners on them and egg them all the time.

Bah. If it's true that they prey on drunk cunts to spin shit to make more money they deserve more people doing runners.

I don't know anyone that pays for cabs nowadays. If you're going to do a runner, just make sure you know where you're running to, aye hooptie :D

OK, I'm not going to touch drunken behaviour because I am not the most sensible drunk...BUT

There is a cabbie in Sydney (and I have his ID) who routinely charges double the cab fare - IF - you pay with a credit card. I was caught by him once because I was in a hurry and didn't read the receipt, but he obviously knows that most people don't read the receipt at all.

What he does is charges the fare through as normal, then charges the tip through at the same amount as the fare.

The second time I rode with him I recegnised his surly fucking grey-haired arse (which is perched atop his shoulders). I thought "right - if he tries it on, I'm going nail him".

So he tries it on. Same story - double charge, one on the fare, one on the tip. I say "Gee! A $12 tip, that was generous of me!"...So he pretends that it's a mistake and that he "accidentally" put through the tip and claims that he doesn't know how to work the machine, so I suggest that seeing as how he uses it every day he might want to consider learning and I get $12 out of him in cash and let him go on his way.

Fucker.

The lesson to learn here is: always read your receipt even if you're in a hurry.

I never pay with credit
and I always round up to the nearest 5-10, I find I get the same cabbies more than once, and they tend to be nicer if you do that...

Especially the ones that help you carry your groceries up 3 flights of stairs!

Some cabbie yesterday took me two junctions up the motorway past where I asked to go, then tried to charge me because he had to turn around.

What a jerk.

Near-blind man left on side of road
22mar05

AUTHORITIES will investigate why a nearly blind taxi passenger was abandoned 10km from his desired destination.

Templestowe business owner John Ayton had been at Federation Square with relatives on Sunday before catching a taxi home.

Well into the ride, Mr Ayton became concerned he did not know where he was.

"I'm not sure what suburb it was, but I realised it wasn't familiar," Mr Ayton said yesterday.

"And I said, 'We're going to Templestowe, aren't we?', and (the taxi driver) said, 'Oh yes, I get you there'."

I think you just helped me answer MisterBishi's comment. I WASN'T carrying my bag, nor was a female friend. There were too many of us in the cab and as I was the only chick I was sitting on a mates lap and there was no room for my bag, so my friend Stuart was holding my bag.

In his defence, men aren't used to carrying bags, so I completely understand why he didn't remember it as he got out...

BTW...that story re: the blind man is fucked!
